SIX YEARS ❤️

Today, six years ago, Trevor and I had one of the best days of our lives! It really, really, really was. Gosh I love that man. All day I have been thinking about our wedding, and how much Trevor means to me. While I am beyond excited for the new joy that is coming into our lives with our little girl, I realized today that we are ending an era, of just Trevor and me. It has been seven years of just us... and that is all changing soon. We are so ready for that change, but I am surprisingly feeling bittersweet about it all right now. We have had a lot of fun, and we have grown so much. We met in August, married in August, and will be adding to our family in August. This month will always hold a special place in my heart. I can't thank Trevor enough for bringing me so much happiness in life. I am blessed, and can't wait to watch our family grow! Happy Anniversary my love! :)

Trevor pointed out that today is Tuesday, and that we got married on a Tuesday! I love little things like that. I thought I would share our wedding videos from the big day for all you sappy romantics out there :)

One beautiful Tuesday morning in August...

The Celebration...

Crowley Party of Two... wait, make that THREE!

Our love is growing by another heart this year! Introducing the Crowley Party of THREE!

We are already so in LOVE with this little one due to arrive in August! :)

August must be our month, seeing that we met in August 2008, got married in August 2009, and now we are expecting our little one August 2015.

So from our growing family to yours, Happy Valentine's Day!

Survival Guide for the Law School Wife

Trevor's Law School Graduation & Being Sworn in as an Attorney

The week before law school started the school had a big orientation just for the family members of the students. I attended eager to learn more about what was ahead for us, "Law school, I thought to myself, what an exciting new adventure!" They had provided us with lunches and I shortly found myself chatting away with another young woman whose husband would be in Trevor's class. Throughout that meeting, between bites of my delicious Apple Spice Junction turkey sandwich, my eagerness slowly turned into worry. They had counselors and spouses talking us through the law school experience and what to expect. Woman shared their personal struggles, and things they had learned along the way. By the time the orientation was complete, the smile I had walked in with had been wiped right off my face. I was scared. They made law school sound horrible. (The cool thing about blogging, is that I have those thoughts documented!) They didn't sugar coat anything, and I left with the impression that this whole law school experience was going to be a lot more challenging than I had originally anticipated.

In retrospect, I appreciate the honesty. I felt like I was better equipped for the changes that were going to happen after that meeting. Throughout the last few years I have had several e-mails and comments from other women entering the world of Law School with their husbands or boyfriends. They wanted advice, tips, anything to prepare them. I thought since now that we have officially been through it all, the LSAT, law school, the Bar, and officially becoming an attorney, that I would put together a post about our experience and the advice that I would give. I don't want to scare you, but I will be totally honest. With that said, this advice is based of what I have learned from others and our own personal experience. And just like anything, no two situations are exactly alike. Hopefully those who are going through this experience can take something from this! If I can help one law school widow out there then I have done some good in the world today, haha.

So let's get stated shall we...

YOUR HUSBAND IS GOING TO FEEL STUPID.

One thing I have learned is that anyone who goes to Law School is smart. Not that making the decision to go is smart, I mean that the caliber of people who attend are smart individuals. They are used to doing well in school. They typically have always got good grades, and for the most part excelled over their other peers in this way. Then they go to Law School with a bunch of other people who are just as smart, or smarter than them. It is a whole new ball game for them. They are not used to this kind of competition academically, and when you add the pressure to rank the best, it can truly break down their spirits. Because you don't have traditional homework in law school, there is no way for them to judge how well they are doing until after they already get their final grade for the class. This causes some major stress and anxiety. They start to question their abilities, and how smart they are, and that is incredibly hard to watch as a spouse. This is where your most important role starts and will need to continue throughout the next few years.

Your job is simply to...

Our Anniversary Weekend

It was pretty last minute but Trevor and I decided we needed to do something a little more fun than just go out to dinner for our anniversary this year, I mean, it is five years! Trevor and I love being outdoors and being active, so when I suggested boating in St. George he was totally on board. Being on the lake is probably our favorite thing to do! We drove down Friday night and by Saturday morning we were on the lake with Trevor's family! The weather that day was amazing and we had a lot of fun just soaking up the sun and swimming. After we went to lunch and my brother and his wife met up with us. I love that both my brother and I have in-laws in the same city because we get to sneak in little visits when we both happen to be there. We even ran into some friends, which happens a lot when going back to one's hometown, and so it was like a little party at CafĂ© Rio!

FIVE YEARS

I have thought a lot about fate, soul mates, and all that jazz. I have always been the person that believes that there are a lot of different people out there you could be happy with in a relationship. But logic goes out the window when you fall in love, because when you fall in love, it feels like fate.

The other night Trevor and I were lying in bed just talking. I brought up how easily we could have not met. I met Trevor at a barbeque on a hot summer night. It was a college party and there were a ton of people there, and because it was so hot there was a really long line for the water. I had gone to this barbeque alone and didn't know anyone, and so with no one to say hi to I got right in line for some water. Unbeknownst to me I was standing in line behind my future husband.

When you think about all the little factors in life that could have made it so I wasn't in line behind him. If I had shown up only a few minutes later, or earlier. If Trevor had decided to get food first. When you think about all the little things that could have happened to make it so that we would have never made a point of contact it can blow your mind. I mean, Trevor only talked to me because the water had run out and he offered to get me some from somewhere else. What if the water hadn't run out? We probably would have never talked.

When you add up all those moments where us meeting could have never happened, it just feels like fate. But I don't really care if it was fate, or chance... I am just so happy I met him. I will forever be thankful everyone was so thirsty that night because it changed my entire life. From the moment we met we were on the fast track. He turned my world upside down.

Five years married, six years together, and yet I feel like no time has passed at all. I mean, obviously it has... but something isn't adding up. I can't be the only married woman experiencing this paradox? I remember my dad telling me that he has never felt older than his twenties. I am just starting to grasp that concept now that I am getting older. Sometimes I feel like Trevor and I just met, yet at the same time feel like we have been together forever? Such a weird feeling. Time is passing, but it isn't.

What can I say about the past five years? After finishing college together, and going through law school, we are finally coming out on the other end of that "are we going to be in school forever?" feeling. I can see the transition happening, a new phase in life, and it is pretty exciting. In life there are absolutely no guarantees. Things happen, people change, we win, we lose. Because of this I know just how lucky I am. How lucky I am that I met and fell in love with a great man.

How blessed I feel to know him. To really know all the idiosyncrasies of who he is, the kind of things you only learn from being totally open with someone for years.

Happy FIVE years my love! I look forward to being "twenty" with you forever...

Here is some of the footage from our beautiful wedding day. I love having these videos, I kind of tear up every time I watch them. Chris, you are the BEST!

Unplugged.

So I had all these grand plans to have blog posts set up and ready to go for when I was gone. But the reality is, the last few weeks leading up to us leaving for Thailand was so hectic and chaotic. So much needed to get done, so much wasn't ready, and so much was going on with graduation and family in town. Then I thought about how I could swing managing it from abroad, that idea lasted for about a second.

The thing is, I blog about my life and interests, and never want it to to be priority over quality time with friends and family. So often I feel we let our jobs, hobbies, whatever it may be take the priority. I wanted one hundred percent focus on me and my husband while away. I loved being totally unplugged from it all while in Thailand with Trevor. It was a much needed break.

After a grueling three years in Law School, working, life in general... we have not had much time for the kind of quality time all couples need. Can I just tell you how AMAZING the quality time we had in Thailand was?! I think my favorite thing about going to Thailand was reconnecting with my husband. It felt like a honeymoon, like we were dating again. I get a little teary eyed thinking about it honestly. I love that man so much and have renewed the goal to make sure we get that quality time more often, and don't let the common stresses of life get in the way. Oh how important it is. It is THE most important thing.

We both are ready to get back into the groove of things and are looking forward to the new changes happening in our lives! I will be back to blogging regularly, and get ready for lots of posts about Thailand :)

To an amazing man...

Happy Birthday Trevor! Today is Trevor's birthday. Twenty nine. He feels old ;) Where do I even begin when it comes to celebrating such an amazing man? Trevor is passionate. He is passionate about anything he does, and because of that, he has accomplished so much. He is one of the smartest people I know, and one of the most talented as well. Yes, if you hadn't caught on, I am going to brag about my husband today. He has accomplished so much this year, and deserves every good thing that has come his way. Handsome, smart, and talented all rolled up into one of the most loyal and genuine people I know. He makes me a better me. I love him more then he will probably ever truly know. I don't know how I got so lucky meeting him, let alone marrying him, but I thank God every day that I did. Happy Birthday Trevor, I LOVE YOU!

San Diego Bay - New Years Eve 2013

what five years together looks like...

The other night while my hands were covered in some scrumptious parmesan and garlic sauce I realized mid bite of a delicious chicken wing that my husband had changed.

It wasn't a bad change or even a good change, it was just... a change. A small fraction of a shift into a different version of him that I have always known, or I guess, how I have always thought I have known him.

But in that same moment that I realized he had changed I confessed to myself almost instantaneously that I too have changed. Change is inevitable.

Life is about progression, and to progress, change needs to happen. Sometimes change can be hard, but it almost always makes us stronger people and better people. I usually welcome change in all forms because I get bored easily, but when it comes to your marriage change can seem scarier. Your lives are intertwined. You are a team.

It was a casual night, even though we were celebrating our four year wedding anniversary, I mean, we were eating chicken wings for goodness sake! We are pretty classy folks ;) Although casual, our conversation was deep and personal. A review on our five years together, on our marriage and our future. We talked for hours.

I got married young, and one concern someone mentioned to me was, "But you are so young, aren't you afraid you both will change as you get older?" I remember responding that I knew we would change. I fully expected us to. But that if you focus on loving each other and changing together, that change can make your marriage better, and even great.

When I said that, I didn't really know what I was saying. But I can say that now I know that it is true. The changes have been subtle, but after five years those subtle little steps have become huge strides. I didn't wake up one morning and have a whole new different husband. But I realized during that dinner that he was different, and in review of our life together I saw how it all came together to make who he was right now.

Trevor and I are individuals, but we are also married. I know that Trevor and I will continue to change as we get older and something I have learned in this short time together is how important communication with your spouse is. If you don't communicate and express all your thoughts and desires with your spouse, you could wake up one day and not know who your spouse is. Communication will make your marriage stronger.

As we walked hand in hand back to the car that night, I realized that with just one conversation we made our marriage stronger. And it is conversations like that, that build up your marriage into something great. When you can strengthen each other individually, it makes the two of you a stronger unit. And I am so thankful that I have someone like that to call my husband.

FOUR YEARS.

Today Trevor and I have been married for FOUR years! Where does the time go? I remember the night I met him like it was yesterday. Over these years I have grown in ways that I didn't even know were possible. I married a great man, who in return has made me greater.

Last conference Elder L. Whitney Clayton said something that has really stuck with me and thought I would share it.

"Marriage is a gift from God to us; the quality of our marriages is a gift from us to Him."

Check out our special day here.

half way there...

this is when I make trevor leave the law library and have lunch with me :)

Trevor is officially half way done with Law School. I can't even believe it. Time is a funny thing, somehow it can go by slowly and quickly simultaneously. That is how I would describe our Law School experience.

There have been moments where it felt like this was going to last for forever, and now I sit here amazed that we are already half way there. Yes, I say we. Indeed Trevor is the one studying and doing all the hard work, but as his spouse I have to deal with never seeing him, doing extra around the apartment, and lifting his spirits when things become too much for him. I have truly been his partner through this, and while it has come with its challenges, I think it is one of the best things that has happened to our marriage. We are much more patient and understanding with each other, and appreciative.

The other night Trevor and I were talking about life after law school and it gave me butterflies. I guess I just envisioned us in school for such a long time when we got married that I can't believe we are already needing to have conversations like this!

I tell Trevor I am proud of him every single day, but for some reason those words just don't do it enough justice, and when we were about to go to sleep and Trevor thanked me for all that I do for him to make his life easier, my heart melted. I am so thankful for a hard working husband and best friend in my life :)

a wedding full of smiles :)

i could lie...

image circa 2009.

I could lie and let you think that Trevor and I handle our busy schedules, work and school flawlessly.
The past year has been me working full time and Trevor in Law School. This has been an adjustment for us. I know I have complained about it, but we just don't have a lot of time together.

After an already busy first year of Law School, he then goes and pretty much leaves me for the whole summer, all to come home and then start Law School again. I literally just want to scream, "When will I get to see my husband?!" better yet... "When will I get to have FUN quality time with my husband again?!"

I know that going through something like this in your marriage is normal, typical, and if you let it, can help your relationship truly grow and blossom. But it can be hard to focus on that daily. It can be hard to remember the benefits when you see your husband for a genuine half an hour every day. every. single. day. monday through friday.

Problem is...When we DO have time... we just aren't taking advantage of it. We are both always so "tired" and we want to be lazy. Granted... we are lazy together, haha but I have felt for the past year we need to be better and more proactive in creating time for us. Real, thought out, fun, genuine time together. We have been working on it a bit this summer... but I want to be even better at it. We just work too hard to not be enjoying ourselves. We used to be constantly on the go together, and that is something we used to always have, and is why our blog was titled crowley party in the first place. I want that "party" back in our relationship.
I could lie to myself and say we don't do as much anymore because of law school and the commitment something like that takes... but lets be honest, isn't there always something? There is always something that we use as an excuse to blame our problems on.

While law school is known as being a notorious time suck, I think I am fooling myself into thinking this issue of spending quality time together and really focusing on still dating each other is linked to school. Because if I am being honest, if it isn't school, it will someday be children, or work, or... you get the idea.

Why is it so hard to just DO IT?!

Well... the new goal is to just finally DO IT! We are going to make this happen, and I hope all you married couples in the same situation decide to join us.

... and since were being honest here... you know you all could use some better, fun, quality time with your spouse. Designated, specific time!

My goal is to go on 40 dates with Trevor before the end of the year! A bit lofty, but shoot for the stars right? I want to make sure they are good quality, fun, thought out, planned, and not repeats. I want to make a goal to put more effort into how we date each other. It can be hard to do that when you have busy schedules. So here is to the goal! Lets just hope we can actually think of 40 different things to do! HA!

Date ideas would be greatly appreciated :) Who is joining me?

our third anniversary...

My mouth looks a bit funny here, but I thought it was cool this picture turned out, because this was me marching towards Trevor telling him, no more pictures haha.
Top: F21 Jeans: Delias Shoes: Target Necklace: C/O Cheerfully Charmed Bag: Epiphanie camera bag

So Trevor, who normally hates taking pictures or getting pictures taken haha, was ever so willing to take some pictures of me at City Creek for a "personal style post." Funny thing is, I was super embarrassed with all the people around. So wait a minute, me not wanting to take pictures, and Trevor wanting to take pictures!? - talk about a role reversal! hahaha

P.S. I just noticed how this outfit, and my last personal style outfit, match my blog colors hahahaha.

*Documenting my personal style to make sure I keep the promise to myself, to always be fully dressed with a smile.
 ♥ ♥ ♥

As you may have seen in my last post, Saturday was Trevor's and mine 3 year wedding anniversary! Crazy how the time is flying by. Trevor was gone all week for internship interviews for next summer, and I started another job (on top of my other one) - so we had been too busy to really have anything planned for what we were going to do that day.

Last minute Trevor suggested going up to Salt Lake City and seeing Wicked. I was dumbfounded because I never thought he would want to see that kind of show! I guess even after three years you can still learn something new about your spouse, right?! haha I guess Trevor likes musicals... who knew?! haha I saw the show back in 2007 in London with my mom, so I knew it was amazing and thought Trevor would like to see it, but I also knew there was no way tickets were available the day off the show haha. I was right, they were sold out.

But they told Trevor about how they do a drawing for ten tickets where if you get picked you can buy two tickets for only $25.00 and you get orchestra seating. Your odds all depend on how many people show up for it, and the guy told us he has seen it as low as 30 people to over 100. We decided to take our chances, and thought our odds looked really good until the last minute tons of people showed up hahaha. Needless to say, we didn't get picked :( But now that I know Trevor would go to a show and enjoy it, I think we need to just buy some tickets (ahead of time haha) and go see it, he would love it :)

With no show happening, we decided to just spend the day in Salt Lake City since we were already up there. Being there was actually really fitting, and brought back so many memories. Salt Lake City is where I met and fell in love with Trevor. Where we got engaged, and where we started our life together. We spent the first two years of our marriage there, in our nasty small apartment, haha oh man... the memories.

We explored the new City Creek Mall (wishing that was there when I used to literally live up the street from it!) had a nice dinner (like... soooo yummy), saw a movie at the theater we used to go to all the time, and hung out in some of our old stomping grounds. We even parked in an old parking lot we used to go to all the time and just sat there for a bit. I was loving it. It was a great day!

We may not have been able to get the Wicked tickets, but we were able to have a day that was like visiting memory lane! I could see where we started and where we are now. We have grown so much - so much has changed since collage. We talked a lot about where we are going next in our lives. I love our past, but I am so excited for our future.

I couldn't help but think...
"this is what building a life with someone is like. this is it. right here."

Happy Three Years my Trevor! To many more!

  ♥ ♥ ♥

three years...

Three years ago, I married an amazing guy.

Today I thought I would leave you with three (of the many) reasons I married him.

3. He is one of the smartest, hard working people I have ever met in my life. Nothing is more attractive to me then a smart man.

2. He makes me a better person. He challenges me in ways that help me grow, and vice versa.

1.  I love him.

Remember to be kind...

Please excuse my goober of a smile in this picture haha

Things have been a little tense in the Crowley household. You see, Trevor is about to finish his first year of Law School. The notorious first year of Law School. The worst experience ever apparently. And I am here to say, that everything you hear about it, is absolutely true.

While Trevor has been stressed with studying for Finals, I have been struggling with being alone all the time (which I better get used to, because Trevor will be leaving more for a month and a half this summer for an internship in Arizona!) I drop Trevor off at 8:30 every morning, I then go to work, I come home around 5:30, go to the gym, come home, eat dinner by myself, clean, etc. etc. Then around 10:00 P.M. I drive over the Law School to pick up Trevor, who has been at the Law School ALL DAY LONG. He usually has already eaten dinner by himself at the Law Library. He might grab a little something more to snack on, then plops himself on the couch and studies some more. If we are lucky, we will watch a show or something together for half an hour--keeping us up way later then we want to be up, but we just want some time together. So we wake up and start that routine again, but of course, extremely tired on top of it.

This schedule has been going on for awhile, and to say we are sometimes grumpy about it, is an understatement. He is stressed out with studying, pressure of grades and doing well, and being tired, while I am tired of working all day and coming home to, well, nothing. We have both been feeling very lonely lately, and the other day we had a dumb argument over something stupid (like most couples right?) We had just snapped.

Isn't it ironic where arguments or bad feelings generate from sometimes? We were both just angry we haven't had much time together, and those frustrations turned into an argument. It doesn't make much sense now does it? We fought because we want to spend more time with each other? haha

While figuring out the balance during this stressful time hasn't always been smooth sailing, it has made our relationship stronger. We are in a result communicating better, and I am constantly being reminded to just be kind. This is my goal for the next year. I know some people start their New Years Resolutions at the beginning of the year, but I like to start mine whenever I feel the urge to make a change in my life. I want to be kinder. I want to be known as a kind person. I want to always be kind to my husband, friends, and those around me.

I am so thankful for the type of relationship I have with my husband, that even after a big fight, we can come together and resolve it, make our marriage stronger and continue forward. I can only imagine what a lifetime of this kind of transition and refinement can do for a couple, and people individually. I truly am looking forward to it.

Together we are making each other better people, every day :)

blonde hair.

I lay in my bed starring at the ceiling debating with myself if I should get up or sleep in five more minutes. Just when I had decided I should stay in bed, the door opened and the light was turned on.

I hadn't even noticed Trevor was already up, and there he was, giving me a wake up call.

I pushed my hands up above my head in protest. He jumped on the bed to give me a hug and a kiss. He moved his face towards mine and then ...froze.

"You have arm pit hair," he said in shock. His face disgruntled, but not in disgust, in total surprise.

"Um yeah, I forgot to shave them in the shower the other day, there is barley anything even there," I responded with a giggle under my breath.

Trevor stayed frozen and just starred at my arm pit.

"I have never seen your arm pit hair before," he admitted, more to himself then to me.

"Well I would think that is pretty good on my part, I mean, us being together three in a half years and you have never seen it," I stated proudly.
*I may not be good at shaving my legs, but the arm pits do not normally get neglected. I can't stand arm pit hair.

Trevor is still just starring in shock.

"You did know that I am human, and I grow arm pit hair... right?" I ask, just to make sure.

"Yeah... I just always thought it would be blonde!" he exclaimed.

Bursting into laughter I got out of bed.

"Sorry to surprise you like that my dear," I said while giving him a morning kiss.

Oh the things we keep on learning about our spouses. Every day something new :)
&yes, I totally just shared that story on my blog, haha.

P.S. So this post was about arm pit hair, when the one post I did titled arm pit hair wasn't haha.

shall we dance?

It makes me smile :)

our time.

Tops: F21, American Eagle Jeans: F21 Shoes: Target

Well the books cost a fortune, but at least he has been getting good use out of them. Trevor has been reading non-stop since before class even started. I guess law school has officially arrived in our household. I already understand the joke people say about law school wives being law school widows. I am so used to Friday nights being our time together, but I had to wait hours for him to be done reading before we could have dinner together last week. I can already tell that we are going to have to take advantage of the time we have available and put it to good use. I think we realized that after the past couple weeks, so a bit ago we spent Saturday morning, after some studying of course, bouldering. Something neither of us have done before. Let me just say it reminded me just how much I need to be working out, I have no upper body strength! But I got better the longer I kept at it. We had a lot of fun :) After not seeing too much of him throughout the week, it was fun to do something together. In a strange way I think it has made our relationship better. We have less time together, but because of that, the time we do spend together we try and make really special and fun :) At the end of the day I am just happy I married someone who is such a hard-worker. Love you Trevor.

law school wife.

This whole week Trevor has had law school orientation, and they had a family day yesterday for anyone involved in a law student's life to come and learn more about law school and what they will be going through etc. There was a joke said that I guess a lot of people know, but I had never heard it before... apparently law school wives should really be called a law school widow. I guess that is funny, except I am about to become one apparently. I wasn't really worried at all until I went to this meeting. I am happy I went because I learned so much, I had no idea just how different law school is from any other kind of graduate program. But on the other hand, I am now a little apprehensive. They basically told us to expect to see the worse side of your spouse, that your spouse will NEVER be done working, and they will have a couple melt downs through out the semester.

I am going to be totally and 100% honest right now. Marriage is not easy, and I already have a list of things Trevor and I need to be working on to make our marriage stronger, and better... I mean who doesn't? So to think we are going to have add this stress to it, really freaks me out. I know we can make the best of it, but I am just not looking forward to doing it. They had a couple of wives there of some students that are in their 2nd and 3rd year and one of the girls shared something that stuck out to me.

She explained how it is really hard, but it feels good to become stronger as a couple by being able to go through something that is hard, together. It made me think of the phrase that is said a lot in my church which is, "I can do hard things."

Any advice people have on this when it comes to being married during difficult graduate programs, any law school wives, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks :)

slow motion.

All couples have their quirks. But the other day I couldn't help but shaking my head and laughing a little. Trevor and I like to karate fight/beat each other up in slow motion. It sounds really dumb, but it is incredibly fun, &I have no idea why! haha The other day we randomly broke into doing it while cleaning up dinner. I love making my body jump back from one of his kicks, emphasizing just how powerful the kick was haha. Or when I get a perfect knee kick to his "parts" and he says "GOOD SHOT!" haha. We are not actually hitting each other because we are going SLOOOOOWWW. At one point Trevor started moving way too fast for slow motion, so I reminded him we are suppose to be going slow. He responded with, "Alycia, I am going this fast because that IS my slow motion. Yeah, I am THAT fast in real life." haha
It is the unique, sometimes strange things that couples do with each other that I love to see in couples.
