So I believe it was about the 8th grade that I started getting these headaches. I noticed them after reading a lot or using the computer for an extended period of time. My mom took me to the optometrist but I didn't think that would really help because when I was reading, the words were never blurry. I walked away with my first pair of glasses that day. Apparently I have a very mild astigmatism. Basically my eyeballs are shaped like footballs and so my focus isn't exactly on point, so my eyes work double time to correct this. So after reading a lot it wears them out. Because of this I never really needed my glasses to see anything, but simply to avoid headaches after reading. I have never had to be dependent on my glasses to be able to see things, or read things. Which was so convenient.
Well the past six months I have noticed that my teachers PowerPoints are really crappy. I had kind of brushed it off just thinking the school needed new equipment or something. Then one Saturday afternoon, Trevor and I headed to Costco. I was looking for a particular section--you know how Costco has those HUGE red words above different sections of their store? Well those words, were blurry. I rubbed my eyes a couple times thinking my eyes must just be tired. Trevor assured me that my eyes were probably just still waking up or something. I started to freak out a little by the end of our shopping trip when I noticed I couldn't really read anything in the distance. If the print was big enough then I could make out what is said, but nothing was crisp. I went back to school and realized it wasn't the schools equipment, or my teachers PowerPoints. It was me. I couldn't even make out certain things on the white board anymore.
At twenty two years old, I feel like an old blind lady. I am not sure what it is exactly, if my astigmatism just has gotten worse, or if I am nearsided now? Soon I will be making an appointment to get a new prescription, but this whole depending on glasses to see thing kind of really sucks. I can't even make out who people are if they are too far away... sad day. So to make myself feel better about being blind I am using this opportunity to get a new pair of frames :) I have a coach pair that I love, but I would like something a little more fun.

This is where you folks come in! I need some helping choosing between these two, black or the coming back tortoise style? I can't decide. I think the black might go with more which makes them more practical, but I don't want it to be harsh on my face. I think the Tortoise ones wouldn't look as harsh on my skin, and seem really fun....but then probably wont match nearly as much as the black. I think I am leaning more towards the black for practicality, but what do you guys think?
Let me know what pair you would get and why! THANKS!

ReplyDeleteBlack would probably go with more, but the tortoise style seem like they would match really well with your personality!
ReplyDeleteTortoise! I feel like everyone has the plain black frames-which they are practical but the tortoise are fresh and fun. I say, who cares if they match or not, just wear 'em because they're cute (and so you can see)! I also have a problem seeing far away and it sucks. I went to the eye dr and tried like 3 different kids of contacts and they hurt my eyes and I refuse to wear glasses 24/7/ For now, let me be blind haha!
ReplyDeletethis is a tough one. i just chose glasses last week, and i ended up getting two pairs because i couldn't decide! i agree with the tortoise looking better with your coloring, and the black possibly looking too harsh with your fair skin and hair. i think the tortoise would match just fine -- esp. since NOT matching is kind of in right now. i used to have black frames and i felt they were too harsh even with my dark hair. so ... i guess i vote tortoise! good luck choosing, i know it's so hard! :)

tortoise shell! i want ray ban tortoise shell glasses soooo bad... do it:) also i have black glasses right now and i don't like how dark they are on my face.
ReplyDeleteI always go with tortoise because black flushes me out in my opinion. But both pairs are very fun and cute! Don't forget to post pictures after you get your new glasses! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm nearsighted as well! Would love to say it's okay.. but it does suck! Especially since I don't have the ability to wear contact lenses on my own. I would go with the black ones :)
ReplyDeleteJust came across your blog! Super cute! I'm going to grab your button and add it to mine. :]
ReplyDeletei had the same problem deciding between black or tortoise shell when the eye doctor told me i couldn't wear contacts anymore...
ReplyDeleteso i got 5 pairs of glasses!! it's a fiesta on my face every day!
tortoise shell! they will be softer and flattering on the face. Plus you like yellow so the hint of yellow in the frame will go with must of your clothes. Black will just clash on you :(. Nice frame. A have the sunnies. I used to work in an optician shop so I have many different glasses :), lucky me, LOL!
ReplyDeletebrown and black are both neutrals. Go with the tortoise!
ReplyDeleteI own the Black Ray Ban glasses because I have bad eyes and don't want to wear contacts...I absolutely LOVE my black pair! I wear them everyday! I would definitely recommend them!
ReplyDeleteTortoise! My dad is an optometrist and I worked in his office for a while choosing frames for patients. Tortoises are so in and look good on blondes especially. Sometimes black is a little harsh. Plus brown goes with everything too :)
ReplyDeleteHey! Go to glassesshop.com! I get all my glasses there and they're so freakin' inexpensive and they have a place to add your prescription for only $4 more! Seriously check it out....i've gotten 3 pairs for the less than i got one pair from costco. Just make sure they give you your prescription and pupillary distance. Let me know what you think?
ReplyDeleteI love the tortoise! They're still subtle and neutral, but they have some interest. :)
ReplyDeletedude, i have like the exact same problem. i saw the opto. like 3 months ago and he straight up said i needed them.. but then when he was done with everything i never gave me a prescription or fitted me or anything. also, i'd go with the black. probably a little more versatile than the tortoise.
ReplyDeletethanks for the comment on my blog!
ReplyDeletei like the black frames personally. but have no fear i too am 20 and am probably blinder then a dying old lady. no joke. contacts are my bffs but i like to rock the glasses here and there.
I was just telling someone else I need to buckle down and finally buy my glasses!
ReplyDeleteI say the black ones! :)
I actually just ordered black ray bans today as I lost my beloved ray bans I just bought last september.
ReplyDeleteBut I guess the tortoise one would be perfect for you - it'll go great with your blond hair.
tortoise! they will look fabulous with your beautiful blonde hair :)
ReplyDeletethe black ones are the exact glasses I want. So I say those :) You'll look so cute in either!
ReplyDeleteTortoise!!!
ReplyDeletei love them both. it seems like the black are more intense and the tortoise are more boho. good luck deciding!
ReplyDeleteHey! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, subscribing and leaving a comment :). you pretty much made my day :).
ReplyDeleteOh I completely understand the whole feeling blind thing. Oh man, I've had glasses since I was 11. I've gotten really used to having to rely on glasses to see though. I mean I've lived almost half of my life with them, but I also feel like a blind old lady when I don't have them on and I'm only 20! But, I'm here to tell you that glasses really aren't that bad ;). I went with a lighter pair rather than black because I felt the black was too harsh on my face. I would go with the tortoise ones... but then again I see your point with the matching thing. I think you'd look great no matter which ones you chose though :). Good Luck!
wow... sorry for the ridiculously long comment... haha.
ReplyDeletedefinately black!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a hard choice to make! My glasses are pink/brown from Kate Spade... I chose the color because it worked on my face, against my skin and matched my hair... I don't wear them because they don't match the clothes I wear. I might be the exception to the rule, but I hate it when I wear black and blue and my glasses are brown/pink.... So, I think you should go for the black pair!
ReplyDeleteMuffinLovesBiscuit
I love the black ones... i always though black glasses make people look more sophisticated ;) lol
ReplyDeleteI have a astigmatism too.. I noticed it shortly after we join a local homeschool co-op and i was doing double time on my reading.. my eyes hurt.. now i have to wear them every time i read.. sadly i don't remember too ;) lol
Thanks for you sweet comment on my blog ;) I love yours! I think i'm gonna start following ;)
I love black because it makes a bold statement. Love the glasses.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the black ones. As a fellow gal who wears glasses I appreciate a good frame and those black ones are ADORABLE!!! XO!
ReplyDeleteLooks like I'm outnumbered but I'd personally go with black. Do you prefer glasses over contacts (or are these just going to be backups)? I've been near sighted since I was 10 so I feel your pain. :)
ReplyDeleteTortoise Shell for sure. It will compliment you hair and skin tones way better. Plus they are more interesting.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I love tortoise, I am the kind of person that is meticulous about matching. For that reason alone, I would go with the black, because they go with everything. But that's just me. I think you'd look great in either!
ReplyDeletetortoise style for suuuure. love it and i think it would look fabulous on you. besides non-matching patterns on clothes seems to be the in thing these days. why not non-matching accessories too?
ReplyDeleteooo, get them both!! I like the tortoise glasses. FUn, spunky, stylish, and I think brown can even go with black and still look awesome! I just got contacts for the first time ever a few weeks ago. My eyes were SOO bad but, I just kept putting it off because I didn't want to accept that my eyes were bad. I feel like an old lady! haha
ReplyDeletei am kinda digging the tortoise style! i have been debating getting a pair as well, although i already have a nice pair of black glasses. i would say go for it and get the tortoise style!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely comment on my blog girl:)
ReplyDeleteWoooo, Raybans my favourite! Personally, I would surely pick the tortoise style for a more classic vintage vibe.
Hope you pick one and love it lots!
Ooh, choices...I really do like both. The tortoise is fun, feels vintage-y to me, and is different (in a good way :). But I also love the classic black. They would go with everything and always look fashionable. Sooo, haha not a lot of help here huh? But personally I think I would go for black. The practical gal in me I guess ;) Good luck choosing!
ReplyDeleteI vote tortoise! Super chic.
ReplyDelete<3 leigh
I wouldn't get too worried.. it sounds like you're just mildly nearsighted! I've had to deal with that since I was 9.. it sucks depending on glasses (or contacts in my case) but you'll get more used to it :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I vote tortoise shell.. they have a great way of matching everything!
I betchya you are nearsighted now, I had pretty much the same experience you had. I have a pair of fun tortoise ones just like that, and I never wear them because plain black or plain brown always matches better with other items and I have both. I would recommend getting a fun colored pair. I have some red and black oval ones which are fun to put with more boring t-shirt and jeans type outfits. If you want fun pairs check out Zenni Optical online. They're super cheap and the quality is pretty good for the price.
ReplyDeleteI'm partial to tortoise! Also, unless your heart is set on Ray Bans, I totally recommend Warby Parker as a great place to find cool specs.
ReplyDeleteI just got some new tortoise glasses this week, and I've had TONS of compliments on them. More than I've ever had on black glasses. :) But black is cute, too. You can pull off anything!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sweet comment you left me! Your blog is adorable. I too have been having some eye issues. I have been wearing contacts since Jr High but now I think I have developed an allergy or something. Everytime I wear my contacts by the end of the day my eyes are extremely red, and if I rub them I cant stop cause it makes them feel so much better. I have been wearing my glasses lately. Im getting sick of them so Im hoping that will give the courage to get lasik done!
ReplyDeleteI like the brown myself but agree with the blacks practicality... If you love the brown I say you go with those, I agree with you on the skin tone issue.
Also there is a great site called zenni optical. They have glasses as low as $8 bucks and they have tons of styles. So if you want to play around and have a few different pairs it wont cost you a ton. Good luck with whatever you decide!
I love them both! Have you heard of Warby Parker. They look exactly like Ray Bans except they cost $75 for frames, lenses, and shipping! Plus, they give a pair of glasses for a person in need for every pair you buy. And if that wasn't enough, they have awesome customer service! Just a thought :)
ReplyDeletetortoise style girl! I love them!
ReplyDeleteIts always awesome getting new glasses. I used to get headaches all the time when I started college, and finally my mom took me to the eye doctor. That did the trick!
ah that sucks! i'm sorry! i love the black ones!
ReplyDeleteI am totally blind and have to wear contacts. Don't feel bad! Luckily glasses are totally in style! You will rock them. I like the tortoise ones and feel like they will go with more than you think! They will look awesome with your hair color. I am a new follower!

I kind of like the squarish smaller frames. I don't particularily like Ray Bans as they are a bit chunky for a petite face like yours. I like Sharley's frames and think something like that would suit you more
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'.........

ReplyDeleteRay Bans are nice but you can't beat Patagonia or Serrengeti
LOL
He also says hi cutie-pie !!!
When I was 13 we found out that I have an astigmatism as well. I need glasses since then and by now I feel like I'm practically blind without them. I'm so thankful for contacts, although they can be a bit annoying!
ReplyDeleteI think the tortoise style would look great on you! :)
they're so nice!
ReplyDeleteyour blog is great,

ReplyDeleteHard to tell without seeing them on you, but I think I would go with the Tortoise ones--they just look cute.
I am all about easy. Thats why I would go with black.
ReplyDeletei vote black I think black never goes out of style.
ReplyDeleteWrite it in Lipstick
My vote is tortoise! It's Perf with black or brown. Super cute specs lady!
ReplyDeleteI love tortoise style! I can almost promise you would not regret it :) it's truly a timeless pattern!

what an amazing blog...
ReplyDeleteif you want we could follow each other..let me know...

I say tortoise ones are more interesting, but black ones are universal. They suit anyone and everywhere. So, your choice, girl! :)
ReplyDeletexoxo
tortoise! I think they would be a softer look for you because of your blond hair. the black may end up feeling a little harsh...both are very cute though!
ReplyDeletehey! i have an astigmatism too! anyway, i'm basically blind and i've had tortoise glasses for the past six or seven years and i love them. my son got a hold of them a couple weeks ago though and now i wear the never-worn pinkish purple ones i got three years ago when I don't want to wear contacts, which i tell you because glasses are for fun! (also for sight, but whatev.) get the ones you like best and don't worry about what matches! trust me, as someone who's bought glasses most of her life, you'll wear them more if you like them more.
ReplyDeleteWell ok, Just found your blog and is it not the cutest? And are you not just too gorgeous? SO glad I stumbled here! And about the glasses, I also JUST got new ones (black Juicy Couture) so my opinion is go for the black. Always in fashion, always looks great :)
ReplyDeleteI am loving the tortoise glasses...they will go well with your hair! Can't wait to see which ones you choose!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the tortoise, FOR SURE! I want fake glasses :) They are so cute!
ReplyDeletei may be a little late in responding... but i would totally go for the tortoise ones. especially with your light hair, i think the black may be a little harsh for everyday. either way though, i'm sure you will be darling. i am so extremely jealous, actually. i wish i needed glasses... i think they are the best accessory possible!
ReplyDeletemy vote is black...maybe because i have the black ones and LOVE them.
ReplyDeleteBlack! Classic and they go with everything :)
ReplyDeletetortoise - mine are!
ReplyDeleteglasses are such a fun thing to purchase! and trust me... if youre BARELY blind at 22... imagine being blind since the 3rd grade... and now 25! oi vey!
