Halloween Weekend

It kills me how alert and grown up she looks here! My big 2 month old :) It is a grainy shot but what can you do when you are by yourself right? haha

Oh man, we had a jam packed Halloween weekend! Ella was such a champ, and kept up with all of it while maintaining her happy disposition... well except for a short stint of "I want my nap" during some family pictures of course! haha Great timing on my part. Man, trying to time when to feed your baby and do things can be tricky.

I had a different idea initially for our Halloween costumes this year, but Ella's Aunt Kira had got her this adorable costume when she was first born to take some fun pictures with her cousin Jack, and seeing that it was a 0-3 month costume I figured it would be a shame to have had her only wear it once. It ended up being the perfect, and I made sure to pick up some Minnie ears myself so we could match :) I don't know what it is about matching with your kid but it is the best! haha I am SO that mom apparently. I even wore my kitty ears to a friend get together Halloween night because Ella had a cat onesie on! haha

Friday afternoon Ella and I went to Trevor's work for a little trick-or-treating! They invite all the families to come and go office to office and get candy. We are talking full size candy bars! Of course Trevor made me fill our entire diaper bag to the brim, there was so much candy it was ridiculous. I am still in a sugar coma from it all, and we still have a giant bowl of candy bars on the counter tempting me to ruin all my weight and health goals haha It is by far the best loot either of us have ever got from trick-or-treating and we have Ella to thank for that I guess since she was our "excuse" to go around door to door. "Ella" really needs all that sugar, obviously.

After the work Halloween festivities we went home and got ready for the Garth Brooks concert. With it being Halloween weekend, and not having family around, we couldn't find anyone to watch Ella. But I wasn't too worried about it because we had tickets in a box office suite. I am telling you that is the way to watch a concert. It was perfect! We had sound canceling headphones for Ella and she slept through most of the show, I actually woke her up to feed her. They had really nice recliner chairs in the suite and a little t.v. so I could still watch the concert while I fed her. There was even a bathroom in our suite. I am telling you, if your ever going to bring a baby to concert, it is the only way I would do it haha Trevor and his best friend Stanton were pretty funny singing every word to all the songs. And I had a kick out of belting our a childhood favorite, "How do I live without you," with Trisha Yearwood. Garth and Trisha are adorable together. The show was great and we had a lot of fun with our friends!

We had gone to an earlier showing of Garth because he had back to back shows that night, so we were actually home in time for bedtime routine for miss Ella, which was a good thing because we were up early for some family pictures the next day. After pictures we grabbed some lunch in our favorite spot since we were in Provo, 180 Tacos, if you are ever down there you have to try the Buffalo Chicken Taco *raises hands to the heavens!* Trevor went into work for the rest of the afternoon, I cleaned up the house and we got ready for a little Halloween get together and dinner with a group of our friends. We had a blast just eating, enjoying eachother's company, and watching a scary movie. It was a pretty great Halloween!

Halloween Week

You guys, you guysssssssss. Halloween is probably my favorite holiday. I love the theatrics of it all. This year did not disappoint, and we did a little bit of everything I love. We went to a friend's Halloween party, where I won best treat, I brought my favorite homemade oreo cookies but dyed the frosting orange. Such an easy way to make these treats customizable for events and parties!

Trevor decided to go to the party as a ghost, and I thought the whole classic sheet ghost costume was hilarious. He originally cut the holes for his eyes and nose too big so we had to readjust. Oh man, it was hilarious, his hair stuck up on the top because of it and I thought it totally made the costume. I was a creepy mime, and had a lot of fun doing my makeup, in fact no one recognized me when I walked in.

How creepy does Trevor look here?! HAHA
I was dying watching Trevor try and eat with his costume on :) HAHA

The night before Halloween we went to our favorite Haunted House with some friends, Nightmare on 13th Street. We had dinner before and then scared ourselves silly. Friends, food and haunted houses, it was such a fun night :)

On Halloween night Trevor and I decided to go out to Sushi. We found this great place with amazing sushi and with killer prices on top of that. It also happens to be super close to our place, which will probably turn out to be a bad thing ;) We stuffed our faces with sweets, oreo pies, and watched a scary movie cuddled up on the couch. It was the perfect Halloween night and just what I needed after a long and exhausting week. I hope you all had a great week and a fun Halloween! :)

halloween 2013

Halloween was so much fun this year! This is my favorite holiday because when else do you get to dress up and eat a ton of candy? I also love being scared. At the Aveda Institute we had a fun day with all of the students. Costume fashion show and contest, pizza, the whole nine yards. I have always wanted to try some lavender hair so they put in some purplely pink in my locks and I kind of love it!

That night we met up with friends for dinner, and then the ones who could handle it headed on to the Haunted House in Salt Lake called the Nightmare on 13th. When Trevor and I first started dating we went to this Haunted House and it blew us away! The detail and level of professionalism is outstanding! It is THE best! Had so much fun, and I screamed a lot. Which totally made for the perfect Halloween Night!

I have never done a "throwbackthursday" on instagram before, but when I stumbled across this gem of a photo I had to share. This is me and Trevor on Halloween night 2008. We had just become "official" that month and were dancing the night away at a Halloween frat party. Oh man this picture makes me laugh. That was a pretty crazy and fun night, and I am so young in this picture I can't help but roll my eyes. Oh how times flies...

Hope you all had a great Halloween Night! :)

......

I hope you all had a great Halloween!
Unfortunately, my Halloween wasn't exactly what I expected it to be.
I had been telling my mother a couple weeks ago how I didn't know what I wanted to be for Halloween. Then I threw out the idea that I wanted to be an Indian (I was feeling very UTE prideful that day)
A couple days later I am talking to her on the phone and ask her what she is up to. She tells me she is making my Indian costume. I was doing this ":0" WHAT?!
This is one of the amazing qualities of my mother. She always goes out of her way to do special things for people, esp her children. How sweet of her.
So now that I had a costume on its way, I wanted to wear it to something fun for Halloween!
Trevor and I had made plans to go to a Halloween Party.
That Halloween Party was canceled.
Then we planned to hang out with some other friends.
That was canceled.
Then we made plans with some other friends.
That was canceled.
After already having a pretty horrible morning, we had no plans :( &I had nowhere to wear my costume. I was pretty bummed out.
I mean technically I had worn the costume to our work Halloween party, but I was serving at the party and working the whole thing. So I totally felt ripped off on my amazing costume my mom had made me. It really did turn out great.
Finally Trevor decided he was sick of us sulking around the house with nothing to do for Halloween. So we called some other friends (4th attempt to go out) and invited ourselves over.

We rented an 80's horror movie (Children of the Corn) and headed over.
Trevor kept trying to get me to wear my Indian costume (because he knew how badly I wanted to wear it out) But I knew no one else was going to be in costume, and I just didn't want to waste it.
So next year I will wear it somewhere. Maybe I will just have to throw my OWN Halloween party.
Anyways, at least the night ended on a happy note. We had a fun night watching the UTES win!
Stuffed our faces with candy, and got a little freaked out by an old classic.
I can't wait for when we have kids someday and Halloween will be that much more special and exciting. At least I will have the children to celebrate the Holiday with :) haha

Last year we had a pretty exciting Halloween, and even made a video of it... haha check it:

First things First...

So yesterday was a day of "Firsts."
Yesterday was the first SNOW FALL of winter!
(Up here in Salt Lake anyways)
AHH! It was lightly falling all day, and then at night it was coming down pretty hard.
Before we went to bed I looked out the window and said to Trevor, "It looks like Narnia outside!"

(Okay so it wasn't this magical outside... but you get the idea)

So walking to my 7:30AM Spin Class in the freezing cold was a blast...yay.

On a happier note, the other "First" that happened yesterday was that
I applied for graduation. Did you hear that correctly... GRADUATION?!
I didn't really think too much of it, but after having my advisers sign off the form and then handing it in...well it felt pretty darn good. Better then good. Better then I thought it would feel.
I was a little surprised with how excited I got over it to be honest, haha.
Graduation just feels so real and obtainable now, and so close :)

Anyways, Halloween is just around the corner!
Last year I tried to get creative and made some Mummy Dogs.
I think if you have kids or nieces or nephews this is something they would LOVE and could have for lunch or dinner.
It is also something super simple kids could help out with and have fun making with you.

(Just get some Pillsbury bread sticks and wrap the dough around the hot dogs and add eyes with mustard or ketchup!)

When it comes to impressive and creative food, I always go to Bakerella!
She is where I got my amazing cream cheese frosting and red velvet cake recipe from (I added the cheesecake!) The one I made for Trevor, remember?
If you are going to a Halloween party this year, here are some other really fun and cool treats you can make.
This is when I wish we had a bigger apartment, so I could throw a party, just for an excuse to make loads and loads of awesome treats and food like this!

Nightmare on 13th Street...

This past weekend me and Trevor went with some friends to a Haunted House. Trevor had actually taken me to this Haunted House back when we had first started dating. Back then it was the best haunted house I had ever been too, and this year it was even better! It is called Nightmare on 13th and was actually voted one of the Scariest Haunted Houses on the Travel Channel! So if you are in Utah or going to be here in the month of October, you HAVE to come check it out! near the end of it, I was actually getting really upset and ready to get out haha. They incorporate real scary movies throughout it which I love because at least one of the movies you have seen, &the movie scared your pants off. They just do a great job!
After the haunted house we all went over to another friends house for some candy, Texas Hold 'em, some pumpkin and peach pie and the movie Young Frankenstein. It was a great night that got me in the spirit of Halloween :)

Okay so here are some pictures they took of our group before we went in. We took ours with Freddy Kruger of course. They said 3 on each side so me and Trevor had to split up, haha.

I would just like to point out, that Trevor is doing the EXACT same thing in both photos. I asked him why he was starring up at the ceiling &he said he didn't know what to do....haha. I on the other hand have no idea how I pulled this face. We were suppose to look "scared" and I just look like I am straight out of the looney bin, haha.

What have you been doing to get into the Halloween spirit?!

Fall is here...

Remember when I said we went over to Courtney (Trevor's sister) and Eric's on Sunday? Well since they were making dinner, we made dessert, well... I made dessert :)
I was in the mood for fall, so I made some apple crisp. It was my first time making it, and it turned out pretty yummy, if I do say so myself. The only thing I would change in this recipe would be to maybe let the apple slices soak in the cinnamon and nutmeg. Eating this along with some vanilla bean ice cream really got me in the spirits of fall... well that and my jack-o-lantern, pumpkin smelling candle :) yummerz.
4 medium tart cooking apples sliced (4 cups)
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup Gold Medal all-purpose flower
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats, or old-fashioned oats
1/3 cup margarine, softened
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
cream or ice cream
(FYI I doubled this recipe! I also added some Vanilla Flavoring)
  1. Heat oven to 375ºF. Grease bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with shortening.
  2. Spread apples in pan. In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients except cream until well mixed; sprinkle over apples.
  3. Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Serve warm with cream.

Side note:
So I am really into history and facts, which is probably why I am going to school to be a teacher. Anyways, just now writing this blog post, when I wrote about my jack-o-lantern pumpkin candle... the thought came to me, "Why do we call them Jack-o-lanterns? Was there some guy named Jack involved?" So of course I googled it. Scroll down to the "folklore" section. Thought you guys might want to know...
pretty creepy, perfect for Halloween I guess.

Halloween...or shall I say YMCA!

OH Halloween was very interesting this year.... let me tell YOU! First off, I gave the "grand" idea last Halloween that Trevor and all of his friends should be the Village People for next years Halloween. Well they took a liking to that idea, and this year they went with, and they sure did commit to the costumes. A week before Halloween Trevor and his friends held a Halloween Planning Party. They practiced and memorized the YMCA dance from the Village People Music Video, and memorized the lyrics. Trevor took this all VERY seriously. He burned copies of the song and printed off lyrics for everyone in the group to practice at home with... haha wow. Anyways they decided that Halloween was going to basically be, them crashing as many parties as possible and break out into dance to the YMCA with their boom box. Before I get into that, first I will say this Halloween was weird for me because it was my first time carving a pumpkin without my Daddy! It just didn't feel right, it just wasn't the same, and carving pumpkins just aren't as cool as when you were little... anyways I think I did a good job on my pumpkin since it was the first time without my Daddy's help! I then made two plates of Halloween Cupcakes for everyone to eat before we headed out to party crash. They were great (Thanks mom for the awesome sprinkles and Halloween themed cupcake holders I used!) So the first thing the YMCA guys wanted to do was strategically plan getting on to the TRAX station at different stops yet on the same car so no one would notice they were together, then RANDOMLY just burst out into the YMCA dance. It worked perfectly and it was hilarious! You should have seen the people on the TRAX, everyone was laughing some people tried to get up and dance with them... some people were annoyed, haha it was just classic. The rest of the night consisted of us girls following the guys around to different parties getting different reactions from people, all in all by the end of the night my feet were killing (I wore three inch heels and was the camera girl all night long!) It was fun, but I was tired and not feeling good (that was probably the SWINE kicking in at that point, LAME!) The next day Trevor took all the footage and pictures and put together a pretty cool "music video" of the night... I thought you would all enjoy...

(For some reason the quality isn't so great when I uploaded it, you can go to Trevor's Facebook to see a better quality version!)
