21 Weeks Pregnancy Update

How far along: I am 21 weeks and 5 days

How big is baby: The size of a Pomegranate!

Weight Gain: 20 pounds! I realized I hadn't been counting my weight from my first appointment so I made sure to ask this time. 20 pounds sounds like a lot to me, but my nurse said it is exactly where they want me to be. In fact they have started measuring me now and she told me that my stomach is measuring at 19 weeks, which isn't alarming or anything, just a little smaller than most woman at 21 weeks. So everything looks healthy and on track!

Stretch marks: Let's talk about something for a minute, and I am going to be really blunt here. From the very beginning of my pregnancy I felt like my boobs were on fire. Before I even knew I was pregnant I was positive I was because of how bad it was. By two months of pregnancy I had some stretch marks on my chest from how fast they had grown. I knew they had grown at a crazy fast rate, but I didn't know just how much until I finally did some new bra shopping with my mom last week. I went from not even a full A cup to a D cup! In about two months! Holy. Crap. I was floored. No wonder my old bra was killing me, I honestly don't know how I was still able to wear it, haha.

Sleep: My hips people, my hips! Sleeping on your side with a pregnant belly SUCKS! haha Sometimes I will roll over to my back just to get some relief and Trevor will then notice and tell me that I am not suppose to sleep on my back... the struggle is real people! The struggle is real!

Craving: Lately I have been craving, like crazy, Rita's Mango Gelati with Vanilla Custard... um, yum. Can't. Get. Enough.

Random: At my doctors appointment this week they kept finding the heart beat and then she would move, and they would have to find where she turned to, and she would move again, haha. The nurse said she was being naughty and it was kind of hilarious how she kept tossing and turning away from the Heart Doppler.

Feeling: Still feeling pretty shocked that we are having a GIRL. I guess deep down I must have expected it to be a boy because over a week later and I still catch myself going... a girl?! Now that I know what I am having I thought I would start incorporating more journal like entries to these updates, kind of how I did back in the beginning. I just want to make sure I have those thoughts documented as well, along with these fun updates. A lot of people do letters to their little one or something like that, I might do a mix but today I thought it would be pretty fun to officially have something down on "paper" (I plan on printing these all off and making a book) for our daughter to read through one day!

To my Baby Girl,

Your Dad and I found out you were a girl last week, a girl, it was pretty exciting! Your Dad thought for sure you were going to be a boy, so thanks to you I got see what a truly surprised and shocked Trevor looks like! haha I have never seen him so shocked before, his mouth was just wide open. I know you will have him wrapped around your little finger in no time ;) The night before our big twenty week ultrasound I was more excited than Christmas to see you again, since the last time was at 9 weeks and you were just itty bitty. The appointment couldn't have gone better, everything about you was perfect. In fact that was the word the ultrasound technician kept using, perfect, perfect, perfect. We were both just happy we had a healthy baby!

For the whole week your Dad and I have been wondering what in the world we are going to name you! haha I have a few favorites but Trevor doesn't seem to love any of them. He hasn't really suggested anything he likes either, so who knows how long you will go without an official name. Hopefully we will have picked one by the time you arrive! In the mornings your Dad likes to put his hand on my belly and see if he can feel you move. I have told him you don't move much in the mornings and even if you did he would likely not feel anything just yet. He doesn't care though, I think he will check every morning just in case that day comes. Before we know it I am sure you will be moving and kicking up a storm on the daily!

It scares me a little with how much I already love you and you aren't even here yet. August honestly can't come soon enough!

Love, Mom

I can't believe I just wrote the word Mom in reference to ME! ahhhh :)

  1. It's a myth! You CAN sleep on your back. Go look it up in "what to expect when you're expecting" book that your doctor probably gave you. Just listen to your body. It knows when to roll back over. There were many mornings I woke up on my back. And I have two beautiful boys anyway. Just saying. :) BTW, you are one cute prego chick.

    1. Totally agree with Jessie. What I did, because I like sleeping on my back, I rolled a blanket up (length wise) and the put it down on the bed, and then I would rest half of my body on it, so I still felt like I was mostly on my back, but in reality I was at a 30°, but it made me happy not having to be completely on my side. Did that make sense?

    2. Oh thanks Jessie! I hate all the conflicting stuff out there, you never know! haha I would agree you know when to roll back over, I can get a little sick with the weight on me sometimes! haha

    3. And yes, that totally makes sense! Kind of like on your side and back at the same time? I have done that by accident with my blankets before but I should just straight up roll it up and do it intentionally like you said haha

  2. My husband does the same thing if I'm on my back. He will wake me up and tell me to roll over. Kai, I have a memory foam topper on my bed (from Costco) and I can honestly sleep on my side with no problems! It actually makes sleeping on your side with a belly more doable. I'm a stomach sleeper normally so I thought sleeping on my side was going to kill me (and my hips) but I love my memory foam! It's not too soft and not too firm. You should get one :)

    1. Thanks Mars! It is actually from years ago, and it not a maternity dress. I posted about it here, it is from eShakti :) http://crowleyparty.blogspot.com/2013/01/show-time-eshakti.html

  4. I woke up on my back all the time and my babies were just fine. I'd get a body pillow though and then prop another pillow behind you and then you'll be less likely to roll onto your back. My doctor said it was fine as long as I wasn't flat on my back and it's more for when you're further along and you can't breathe well with all the weight on top of you when you're on your back.

  6. Do you have a pregnancy pillow? That helped me a TON as I was always a back sleeper! But since being pregnant, I now prefer to sleep on my side! I guess I just got used to it. But I still sleep with a pillow between my knees. :)

  10. The struggle is totally real when it comes to sleeping! I swear my sleep keeps getting worse and worse and I'm finding fewer positions that are actually comfortable. it makes me a little scared for what the rest of pregnancy has in store since I'm only 21 weeks

    1. Girl we are LITERALLY in the same boat, both 21 weeks and already wondering how it could get worse. I told Trevor that the other day, like, I am complaining now and it isn't even the hard part yet... yikes! hahaha

  11. Oh the boobs! Haha I couldn't believe how big mine got either. Just wait till your milk comes in! NONE of my pre-pregnancy shirts fit after I had my daughter. Breastfeeding is a beautiful thing, but your boobs won't be! Haha

  12. Haha... my boobs did the exact same thing when I was pregnant, both times. And now they're like deflated balloons... so sad. #wompwomp

  13. I'm having SUCH a hard time sleeping on my side too. My hips wake up feeling like a bag of loose bones. It's SO painful. I'm glad to read about the conflicting information from other readers, it's refreshing to know that sleeping on your back a little won't hard you. But you look fab and are glowing and lovely!

  15. Yes some women find their boobs really grow when pregnant other not so much, some women also don't put on much weight others put on a lot you are halfway there

  16. Yup! My sore boobs were the first sign of pregnancy for me. That's when I knew that I had to take a test, because they had never hurt like that before! Oh the stretch marks! THey used to bother me a lot, but not so much anymore. *thumbs up*

  17. Definitely ask your doctor about sleeping on your back. I often woke up through the night and found that I was on my back so I finally asked my doctor about it- he said it's not a big deal and that my body's knows what it's doing. The bigger I got, the less I found myself on my back! I'm still dying that it's a girl, too! I can't WAIT to see her!!
