cupcakes.

So my mother and I share a love for baked goods, what girl doesn't? We love cupcakes and I have been bugging her about my need to try these Sprinkles cupcakes everyone keeps talking about! So we decided to start a cupcake tasting contest. Since La Jolla just opened a Sprinkles store and I knew I was going to be in San Diego, we planned a date for it! So I had my first ever Sprinkles cupcakes... the verdict? They were divine. I LURVED them. I also loved that they had an SD Padres Sprinkles cupcake, I couldn't get over that haha.

Next up was a place down in Hillcrest (down town San Diego) called Babycakes! This place was great and we actually had lunch there too that was incredible, I will share about that later. These cupcakes were great and unique (I even had a PB & J one) but I think the true winner was really Sprinkles in the comparison test.

Next up? My mom keeps on RAVING about a place called Crumbs up in Malibu? Heard of it? What do you think? Where is another great cupcake place we should go and try?!

  3. Sprinkles is the best!! I have to keep myself away from it or else I'd be as big as a house. Yummm! I hear Crumbs is amazing as well...wish we had one in Texas. Yummy Cupcakes [I think they're out of Santa Monica?] is also pretty magical. I ate one too many of their cupcakes one summer that I spent in L.A.

  7. CRUMBS is so yummy! We have them all over NYC and it just so happens to be my mom's favorite cupcake spot too! They are known for their signature big sized cupcakes, and my favorite is the red velvet. (however, they are all to die for.)

  15. P.S. Crumbs does this great sampler of I think 12-16 teeny tiny mini cupcakes of all their flavors - it's perfection!

  22. Oh man...I've come to the realization that I'm a cake snob?? I am soo picky with cake and wont really eat it, ever...but I crave "designer cupcakes" all the time. A cupcakery near me has a banana bread cupcake with peanut butter cream cheese frosting and it is to DIE for.

    Anyways, I'm super jealous.

  27. Really? I wasn't all that impressed, however I do like the Red Velvet. Have you had The Cocoa Bean here in Utah? It trumps every other place! Seriously, they are delicious. I am actually doing a give away for The Cocoa Bean you should enter to win if you want to try it!

  28. Crumbs is reaaallly good (and they're huge!), but hands down Sprinkles is my favorite. Out of the million cupcake places that have come to DC, Sprinkles is still my favorite.

  42. Sprinkles are so good!! I love Vanilla Bake Shop in Santa Monica. Their cupcakes are really really good! I love the Black and White. I'm not a fan of Crumbs just because I think they're overly sweet and they've been so dry every time I've had them. They almost remind me of bad store bought cupcakes. But I know other people who like them so maybe it's just the stores around me. You'll have to let me know what you think :)

  45. omg! you're killlllling me! i LOVE sprinkles. my boyfriend and i are obsessed. I used to live in Malibu and I have to say, Sprinkles is much better. Still, try Crumbs. They are bigger than Sprinkles and filled with...things... in the middle. Also, Vanilla in Santa Monica is pretty decent. Sorry for the novel, told you we're obsessed. :)

  47. I've tried a lot of cupcake places, but I still always compare them to Sprinkles. If we are ever in California, we have to go there even if it is WAY out of our way. I might be slightly obsessed!
