San Diego Playing Tourist :)

So Trevor and his friends decided to go on an overnight deep sea fishing trip! This left one of the other wives in the group and me alone. Since Billie hadn't really seen San Diego before my mother and I decided to give her a quick introduction to some of the fun things you could do downtown! We ate lunch down town at Babycakes and had the best tomato basil soup ever, with the most amazing homemade croutons (&some cupcakes if you remember) We walked around the beautiful Sea Port Village, and showed her some of the great boats around in the harbor. There happened to be a special Navy Sailing Ship from Chile there which got my mother all excited seeing that Alex my little brother is serving in Chile right now! The boat is the second tallest and longest sail boat in the world. Later that day we all went to a great show down town called Mix Tape, a fun musical highlighting the best of the 80's. It was a jam packed day and we were so exhausted when we rolled in around midnight :)

It was a perfect day! :)

Oh & P.S. Today is my HALF birthday! Does anyone else take note of their half birthdays? haha :)

cupcakes.

So my mother and I share a love for baked goods, what girl doesn't? We love cupcakes and I have been bugging her about my need to try these Sprinkles cupcakes everyone keeps talking about! So we decided to start a cupcake tasting contest. Since La Jolla just opened a Sprinkles store and I knew I was going to be in San Diego, we planned a date for it! So I had my first ever Sprinkles cupcakes... the verdict? They were divine. I LURVED them. I also loved that they had an SD Padres Sprinkles cupcake, I couldn't get over that haha.

Next up was a place down in Hillcrest (down town San Diego) called Babycakes! This place was great and we actually had lunch there too that was incredible, I will share about that later. These cupcakes were great and unique (I even had a PB & J one) but I think the true winner was really Sprinkles in the comparison test.

Next up? My mom keeps on RAVING about a place called Crumbs up in Malibu? Heard of it? What do you think? Where is another great cupcake place we should go and try?!

summatime.

What do you do when life hands you lemons?! LICK THEM.
(okay that was really random, but I couldn't help myself)

As you can see I have been having a blast in San Diego, and I have lots to catch you up on! But I will soon be leaving for Canada! I am SO excited :) My mother and I will be going to SMA camp with my sister and her two boys. Since I wont be able to be on the computer, I have planned something fun for you guys all next week. I want to introduce you to some of my favorite bloggers! They will be participating in the new series Life Should be a Party! So you guys will get to meet some of the first blogs I ever read that sucked me into the blogging world :) Hope you are all enjoying your summers so far... I can't believe we are over half way done! Have a great weekend!

glasses blues.

So remember this post about how I am an old lady and can't see anymore? Well I went with the tortoise pair if you were wondering, and when I got them in the mail... they were even prettier in real life. I put them on my face... held my breath... and.... no. sad moment. I know the bigger framed, dare I say "nerdy" glasses are in right now... but these were NOT flattering. I knew I had a very small and petite face, but I didn't realize just how small. These things were pretty funny, and I had got their smallest pair. If you don't believe me you can check out the skype chat I had with my mama to get her opinion....
I have always had a beautiful pair of Coach glasses that I love. But wanted to try something new that had spunk. The second I took the Ray Bans off I tried on my Coach ones and fell in love all over again. They just suit my face so much better, and something I wouldn't be embarrassed to wear in front of a bunch of young students in the classroom haha. So it looks like I am keeping it simple and classic ladies and gents.... I guess I shouldn't be surprised, that really seems to sum up my style anyhow.

But on a happier shopping note...

I wanted to share with you a site that was sent to me called  Zestii At first I thought this sounded too good to be true, but guess what? It is just that good. I have already bought items through it and I am loving it. Are you ready for this? First and foremost, it is totally FREE to sign up. Then select stores, which they have a great collection of them by the way, you can actually earn a percentage back from what you spend. Does that make sense? Here is the breakdown... 1. SHOP Click through their partners for the store, brand or product you are looking for and earn $ based on how much you spend. Each store has a different percentage you can earn. 2. REDEEM Check back a few days after your order has shipped and redeem $ for cash, products and gift cards. I usually just use mine to pay me back through pay pal. Some of these stores I shop online at all the time, so why not get a few dollars off every time I do? It adds up!
I bought two pairs of shoes at LuLus and got $10 back! I like the sound of that. I always think if you have found something great, share it, so here you guys go :) Oh and when you sign up, you instantly get a $5 credit, so they are basically paying you to sign up, a win win :)

"Make do and Mend."

I will never forget one day my senior year, driving in the car with my mother when all of a sudden she bursts into tears. In a state of shock I asked her what was wrong. Amongst her sobs she continued on about how she was a horrible mother because she never taught me how to really sew, amongst a list of very "womanly pioneer things." Melt my heart. She is so sweet. I told her it didn't really matter because even if I did know how to really sew {minus the button here and stitch there} I really probably wouldn't use it much seeing we live in a time where most things are just cheaper to buy. This didn't really ease her guilt, but if it makes her feel better, she did try to teach me to sew and other things. I just wasn't very willing. I picked up cross stitching but got frustrated with it and stopped. I remember my Nana trying to teach me something with some needles and little plastic tube thing... and it didn't stick. I helped my mom make some pillow cases, so I sort of learned the working of the sewing machine. But in the end it was up to me and I just, didn't want to learn it. Well now that I am older there are some things I really wish I had learned while I had the time too.

The past is the past and now that I am older I do have a desire to learn how to sew, and quilt. {see mum, now I want to and will learn someday, it is all okay!} For now I may have to wait until I have some more time but I have decided I WILL learn how to do some basic sewing and essentials.
So mum, you didn't fail :)
And whenever I get my first sewing machine, I may just have to frame this
cute picture and put it above it... I mean too cute.

p.s. remember how I said I wanted to expand my pallet with Sushi? Well me and Trevor bought this platter of Sushi for a great deal at Costco, and I tried some new Sushi....&loved it. Yay yay yay.

Be-Lated Birthday Post...

I know it is a tad late, but I had midterms okay?! Here are the highlights of my birthday week :) READY!

  • Mi Madre came from San Diego to go to Time Out For Women with me. Very cool experience.
  • Which leads to my next highlight, Going to Time Our For Women! I went with my mother, and my old Young Woman's President Holly Welch. It was really cool, and recommend everyone to go to one sometime!
  • Trevor gave me a very thoughtful gift. He was super Sweet and amazing like always.
  • We got Brazilian for dinner at Tucanos and Trevor even went and saw a chick flick with me :) what a trooper.
  • I GOT TWO PLATES OF MY CHINA! So excited and surprised to see my parents got me started on the China I wanted! I can't wait for one day to hold amazing dinner parties with all of my beautiful plates. Someday right?
  • Seeing Courtney and Eric (my in-laws) I love hanging out with Courtney and feel so blessed to have a sister-in-law that I totally and completely get along with. Someone I would be friends with if I had met her and she wasn't even related to my husband :)
  • All the cards and gifts that were sent from friends and family! It is nice to see how much people love you.
  • Hearing my niece Sydney almost perfectly saying "Happy Birthday!"
  • Last but not least, my grandparents sent me THE MOST amazing GLOVES! I LOVE THEM. My hands are always freezing here in Utah, haha I am a big complainer of the snow, but what is so extra special about these gloves are the fact that they are Vancouver 2010 Olympic gloves. That is right :) My grandparents live in British Columbia and get to experience the Olympics being all around them. Oh how I wish I could ditch school and head up there to spend time with them and see beautiful Canada :) The other best part is there are maple leafs on the inside of the hand... I think that is pretty cool! Even if my brother thinks I am lame for loving them so much. I mean, although I consider myself a San Diego girl. I was born in Canada. You can't just forget that or take that away. That is where I am from, where my family comes from. I have Canada pride, even if my little body only lived there for three years, it is where my family history is!

My lunch came with a beautiful heart :)
I got a Snuggie, and even better a UTES Snuggie!
I love getting CUTE gift cards, I always feel sad having to throw them away when I am done with them.
Very excited about my china plates!
One size fits all Snuggie :)
Trevor was a sweetheart and took me to see a chick flick, even though he hates them!
This women was amazing!
She came from the war torn Sierra Leone and has an amazing story.
I ate WAY too much cake for my Birthday! All week I was having cake.
Even at the Super Bowl Party we went to they made me a Birthday cake!
(oh and the weight loss slim fast drinks, NOT mine. Trevor likes them for his breakfast haha!)

So Thanks to everyone who made my birthday Amazing!
Wish I could have seen everyone.
&an extra thanks to my Trevor.
Who in his own way, lets me know how much I mean to him.

Almost Friday?!

For those of you who really know my mother you would know the fun little facts about her. One thing I know about my mom, is that she tries... oh does and has she tried... but she hates sushi. It is one of THE funniest thing to watch her face before she tries it, while she is trying it, and after she has tried. While I am sure I can think of some Sushi she would love {that might take some convincing for her to try some more, haha} I think I found some Sushi she could really get into with no problems at all....

There you go mom, Sushi Cupcakes.
I think I might just have to make you some sometime haha :)

On another side note... to all the girls out there who like to wear leggings: OKAY, I like leggings just as much as the next girl. I see their purpose, I see their fashion ability... but PLEASE Make sure if you are wearing leggings as your only bottoms... PLEASE, PLEASE make sure your shirt is at least long enough to cover the butt. So not cute when it doesn't... so not cute &really not fun for those of us who have to look at you walk around in it! You all know what I am talking about...

Mother's Day

Well as most of you know it is Mother's Day! For those of you who didn't know, my mother is honestly (and i am not being biased) the best mother that you could ever have. Why I am so lucky, I will never know but my mother is the type of person who will do ANYTHING for a person, and if she will do that for a person can you imagine what she would do for her child?

She is a continuous well, and she just gives and gives. She doesn't expect much in return, and is literally as my Nana has put it, a "professional mother." She really has made her children her life and by doing that she has enriched our lives so much. She is concerned with every little detail of our lives and so willing to make life easier for us.

This is one of my favorite pictures of me and my mother because I think it shows our relationship and my mother's personality. My mother is happy when her family and kids are happy. She does everything possible to make that happen for us. I am talking above and beyond incredible things. Every mother wants her children to be happy, but not every mother goes to the effort of looking up all the information (i mean everything, she prints things off, makes a book about everything for you, makes phone calls for you etc!) you could ever want to know about schools, interests, hobbies etc. Not every mother volunteers and runs the show for your sports teams and school events. (and im not talking some simple in class volunteer here, I am talking in charge of Senior Night for an ENTIRE high school!)
She has such a host of talents she could be a personal assistant to the celebrities, but instead she uses those towards making out lives better. She honestly sacrifices so much for us, and is always willing to go without so we can have something.
My life is full of a string of continuous examples of the things that you have done for me, and I don't know how to appropriately thank you since it could never measure up. It goes beyond while I was young and growing up, because even though I don't live at home anymore, It seems you help me even more especially now in my life. I don't think we ever stop needing our mothers and as we get older we find ourselves relying on them more and more. At least that is the case for me. My mother is always someone I can call to for anything, advice, laughs, and most importantly to feel safe.
I have never met someone like my mother. Someone so much fun, so young, and that has so much love for other human beings that it literally is her life. Her entire life is a service to her children, and i have never seen her do a selfish thing in regards to her kids. We don't thank her enough, but I hope she knows how much I appreciate it. I love you so much and don't even want to know where I would today without you. I am so lucky to have been blessed with a woman like you in my life, and that fact that you are my mother... well there really are no words that can really describe how much you mean to me, and how I am baffled at how much my Heavenly father loves me for sending me to you.
