Brand New Start...

It is pretty disappointing to start the new year off knowing you failed some of your goals. I made several health related goals last year that didn't stick. I started off last year with a confession, and to throw another confession in there, I am exactly where I was a year ago. Which is pretty disappointing.

I mentioned how I wanted to get healthier, and lose weight. I did that, but wasn't able to maintain it. I said I didn't want to gain weight over the holidays, I did, and am a little heavier then I even was when I originally posted last year about my weight. I even said I wanted to get in the best shape I have been in as an adult before my next birthday. I am not in the best shape I have been in as an adult, and I still have problems with yo-yoing with my weight. I technically have a little less then a month left before my 25th birthday, so I plan on giving it my all this month to see if I can at least still say I tried and got close to accomplishing No.2 on my list. It is amazing what I have seen people do with just even one month of strong dedication.

I was raised in a family that was always very athletic and pretty dang healthy. I played sports all though out my childhood, and into high school. For that kind of start in life I couldn't be more thankful. I was taught that eating right and staying active was incredibly important.

When I started college however I got very excited about the fact that I could eat whatever I wanted. I remember one week I ate my favorite, macaroni and cheese, straight for a week. Why? Because I could, and there was no one there that could tell me no.

For the first time in my life I wasn't playing a sport. Combine that with a teenager being able to eat whatever they want, and you know why people gain the freshman fifteen. After the first semester I had gained about ten pounds. I knew I needed to make a change, and I soon started going to the gym on campus. There was something rather depressing about the gym. You were so alone. I missed being on a team, and having someone like a coach and my teammates push me further then I thought I could go by myself.

Over the last seven years I have gained and lost, gained and lost. The back and forth in learning how to get it right as my body changes from a teenager to an adult. Trying to teach myself to be my own coach, my own teammate. No one is going to give me that but myself.

It can be hard these days to eat right and stay consistent when processed foods are just easier. It can be hard to motivate yourself to workout when you have worked all day and your favorite show is on. Staying consistent in the world we live in can be a huge challenge. I have decided to make my health a huge priority of 2014.

I really want to make the commitment to treat my body better, consistently. I want to love my body, I want to be healthy. I truly do believe that our bodies are our personal temples given to us from our Heavenly Father. We live in a time where it is almost easier to treat it poorly. To feed ourselves with unhealthy junk and be lazy. I fight this everyday, and I want to truly make a change.

I have found that setting very specific goals help me have better will power. Along with that, I have Trevor, who will also be joining me in getting in shape and living a healthier lifestyle. I know it seems like I have had so many false starts. I have blogged about this countless times. But I guess that is just an example of how a lot of us feel about weight loss and getting healthy. Like we have tried countless times, and it hasn't really "stuck" yet. But if we don't keep on trying, it never will have the chance to stick.

So here is to 2014 and doing everything I can to have it stick! Even if it means actually SHOWING you my progress as I go. I find that when you make your goals public, you are more likely to achieve them and feel accountable to them. So stay tuned...

Now to brighten up your day a little bit go enjoy some Sunshine!

  1. You're right, its so hard with all the processed (and yummy) junk there is to eat! Good luck with your goals for this year!! :)

  2. Amen sister. I think so many women can relate to yo-yoing with their healthy resolutions. It's easier to fall off the wagon than it is to get back up on it. But once you are on it, you gain a physical and mental strength that give you a better chance of staying up there. That might have been a silly metaphor, but it's how I look at it! Good luck to sticking to your goals. Remember, baby steps! Xo

  3. Hang in there! You can do it! It is SO hard as an adult to keep that trim teenage figure I was used to. I've definitely noticed that it's so much harder to lose weight than even a few years ago. I'm still trying to figure my way through it, too, so you are not alone!

  7. I just blogged about the same situation... Except I had gained 10 pounds over this holiday season that had taken me SO LONG to lose! Last year I was extremely healthy and put my health first.. Then I just kind of flushed it down the drain the past 3 months! Its so hard to admit publicly that you have fallen short of your goals, I totally agree. It was probably the suckiest blog post I've ever written. I'm actually going to take my progress pics in the weight gained state I'm in today. As a fellow weightloss blogger, I can attest that taking progress pictures help you STICK to your goals. They are embarrasing but they keep me totally honest as to where my progress is.

GOOD LUCK with your goals! You GOT this girl!

  11. I go through the same cycles... And I always feel so much better when I'm eating healthy and exercising consistently. I think "wow, this is a no brainer. Why haven't I been doing this all along?" And then I inevitably fall into bad habits again. I've found that I always feel (and look) better when I stop focusing so much on the scale and really just try to live a balanced, healthy lifestyle. Good luck! You've totally got this!

  12. Poo. Me too, though I didnt see any change in my weight until my senior year of college, and now since graduating it's only crept up. I envy the days when I could eat eat eat and still look the same.

  13. I put on weight over Christmas too and I really need to lose it! I find it so difficult to motivate myself to exercise but I am definitely going to try harder this year! I just bought the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, I'm looking forward to starting that. Good luck with achieving your goal! Xx

  15. Pretty sure you just read my mind, and blogged about it. My thoughts/process/journey exactly! I'm hoping to become healthier in general, weight loss/muscle gain can follow! Also, trying to focus on a life change, not a yearly goal! Good luck, friend!

  16. Hello! As someone who was able to make a change in 2013, I wanted to give you information on a nutritionist/fitness expert I've been working with since August 2013. I am in NO way paid to write this, just to be clear. My husband hired Emma-Leigh Spring of 2012. He was about 70 pounds over weight and nothing worked. Over a year's time he lost 60+ pounds. Finally, after seeing a picture of myself, which disgusted me, I decided to hire her for myself. I struggled with routine, discipline and diet, and I was great at making excuses for myself. Emma- Leigh changed all of that. She is not about losing weight quickly on some fab diet, rather she's about building a strong body where fat is replaced with muscle. I pay for a nutrition and a fitness plan. She gives me a spreadsheet with my daily caloric intake (carbs, protein, fats and fiber). I weigh all my food on a scale and input it into a program called Calorie king. Is it time consuming? Yes, but it is, but it pays off, and overtime it becomes second nature and goes quickly. Her workout routines make going to the gym so easy because I don't have to figure out what to do. It's already laid out for me, and when I'm in the gym I push it hard. It's mostly a weight training plan with light cardio. Since August, I have seen my body transform into a strong body. My most troublesome fat spots (like my back-fat-love handles) have melted away. It blows my mind! I used to have a flat butt, but I'm bulding a round butt full of muscle. I'm loving my body and nothing compared to that. Her plans vary in price, but if you are ready to make a change in your life, and nothing else seems to be sticking, I highly suggest you contact Emma-Leigh (http://www.emma-leigh.com/about.html). She lives in Australia, and we communicate 100% online, but it works still! I've written about mine and my husband's weight loss on my blog if you want to check it out (melodysvoice.blogspot.com) I just wanted to tell you all this because I have been there. I know how it feels. Good luck and let me know if you contact her. If you have any questions, email me melodyepellegrin@gmail.com

  23. Fall down seven times, stand up eight! I, like you, believe our bodies (and lives) are a gift from God and we should live in that knowledge. Kudos to you for having the courage to publicly restart an important goal. I hope this blog and those who comment serve as a constant source of accountability and support for you along your journey.

Dr joy is a trust worthy spell caster and he will be of great help to you. I never believed in spell casting but After 4 years of marriage my husband left me because I lost my womb, and i was unable to give birth to children. I felt like my life has come to an end, and i almost committed suicide, i was emotionally down for a very long time, but thanks to this spell caster called Dr joy whom i met online after my friend Becky Ross told me how he also helped her to bring back her husband in less than 2 days. I believed her and decided to give Dr joy a try and i contacted him on his email joylovespell@gmail.com. and explained my problems to him. He laughed and told me that In less than 2 days, my Husband will come back to me again, and that he will restore my womb and i will give birth to children. At first i thought it was a joke but i took courage and believed as Dr joy has said and it did happen just as this Great spell caster said, My husband called me and was crying, begging for forgiveness. I forgive him and today i am so glad that all worries and problems has gone away, and we are even happier than before, another good news is that i am pregnant now, and very soon we will have our baby. Dr joy is really a gifted and a powerful spiritual man and i will not stop publishing him because he is a wonderful man. I advice you all If you have a problem and you are looking for a real and genuine spell caster to solve all your problems just Contact Dr joy on his email on joylovespell@gmail.com. because he will always help you to solve all problems.
