Trevor and I had these grand plans to spend the first start of his fall break hiking and camping in Zion's National Park. But thanks to our wonderful Government, who can't agree on anything, all National Parks were shut down. Boo. It is extra annoying because the last two years Trevor has had way too much school work to be able to actually do anything for his fall break, and when he finally feels he can our plans get spoiled.
But Trevor's dad called asking us if we were still planning on coming down south because he wanted to do a surprise 50th birthday lunch for Trevor's mom, so with Provo experiencing a cold front, we figured, why not? So on Friday we were off to spend a quick weekend in St. George with Trevor's family.
We arrived pretty early in St. George and Trevor's parents had to attend a wedding so I called up my best friend Jamie to see what they were up to. Can I just say, if your best friend is going to move away from your hometown, have her move to your husband's hometown. It has worked out beautifully for me :) We met up with Jamie and her husband for a little double date. We hung out at their house and played with their adorable and crazy little dog Gus, and followed up with some pizza. At one point that night Jamie and I ended up in her bedroom just talking like old times. Chatting with Jamie just brings me back to my childhood. We reminisced on middle school and high school and shared stories all night. When it comes to Jamie and I, we never miss a beat.
Saturday morning I was feeling sorry for myself that our Zion hiking plans fell through, so Trevor and I went out to the State park Snow Canyon and went exploring. It was stunning! There really is nothing like the red rocks of southern Utah. Just beautiful. We explored some underground caves called lava tubes. We had to crawl straight down them, but it was fun to see what was down there and look at all the cool shaped rocks. After we crawled back out we played in some sand dunes. It was just the pick me up I needed to make up for not being able to hike and camp.
We came home, cleaned up, and headed out to Trevor's mom's surprise birthday lunch. She was totally surprised! It all worked out perfectly and the food was amazing! It was an Italian restaurant here in St. George and I went home stuffed. We later hit the movie Gravity. Can I just say that I loved this movie! My favorite 3D film by far, and such a nail biting plot. Love, love, loved! I have heard some people didn't like it so I will say I
think it is one of those movies that will be VERY polarized. I
absolutely loved it, but I could see how some people would hate it,
haha. You just have to see it for yourself. It is so different from
anything I have seen before!
Sunday morning we had the traditional big conference breakfast in our pajamas and headed back home. A pretty great weekend for one that was supposed to be ruined :)

I saw Gravity this weekend too and I absolutely LOVED it!!!! It was such an intense movie and you really feel like you are experiencing what she is, especially with the 3D! At the end, me and my boyfriend just stared at each other because we were squeezing each others hands so hard the entire time! Hahaa! Glad you enjoyed it too! :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am adding Utah to my bucket list. Those red rocks look like quite the place to hike, and explore, just be careful that you don't end up like James Franco in 127 Hours!
ReplyDeleteXo
Keeping it thrifty
Love you!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures!! Glad yall had a great weekend together! :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great weekend. So nice to get away from the cold! We have been debating if we should see gravity, the trailer just doesn't intrigue me at all. But with 98% on rotten tomatoes and your raving review I think we'll go see it!
ReplyDeleteso fun! It's too bad that your original plans fell through, but looks like you had a fabulous weekend after all!

ReplyDeleteI love St. George! And I am all for meeting guys from there - as that's where my fella's from. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad about Zion's, but Snow Canyon is gorgeous!
These pictures are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's looks so warm there. Lucky! It was FREEEZZING here but I sorta love being cold. haha!
ReplyDeleteAmazing photos!!! Wow! Glad you got a chance to soak in some time with your love.
ReplyDeleteCan I ask what size you bought the ASOS shirt in? I would like to get it and I think we are about the same size :) Just wondering if it runs big/small ?
ReplyDeleteI usually get a size 6 in stuff from ASOS, however this shirt was sold out in 6 so I ended up getting a size 8. It fits a little longer then most shirts I would typically wear, but I don't mind my stuff a bit baggy so it works for me! Hope that helps!
DeleteOkay, that's it. We are coming to visit Utah, because it is GORGEOUS. Sounds like a fun time, wth or without the state park being open! You're adorable, love your top, and aren''t Forever 21 workout clothes the best?! I love 'em.

Ugh. I'm still bummed we had to miss out on prime play time with you guys :( I'm glad we got to see you for a little bit, but it wasn't long enough. Especially with an ornery Mia. We just need to come spend the night with you guys! We had so much fun (when we saw you practically every weekend one month) last year, ha ha!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you still got to have a little getaway and adventure even if it wasn't what you originally planned!
ReplyDeleteThose pictures are absolutely gorgeous and I LOVE your shirt! I'm glad you didn't let your weekend plans get you down! Also, I can't get over how lucky it is that your best friend moved to your husband's hometown! Haha!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you guys were able to salvage the weekend... this government shut down thing is starting to get annoying... and I don't even live in the country at the moment! Snow Canyon looks stunning though! Will have to plan a trip there with Jurgen sometime :) xxx
ReplyDeleteSnow Canyon is beautiful! We need to go there sometime. You are beautiful also and Trevor isn't half bad :)
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! Looks like Plan B worked out pretty well!
ReplyDeleteLove your shoes, girl!
