eyelash extensions...

So I have been pretty lame at blogging the last few weeks because of traveling all over the place. San Fran, then Canada. In fact I totally forgot to post the tid+bits link up! So I will be back and at it the rest of the week. While my blogging has been sparse, my instagram has been pretty dang active!

I have had a lot of questions since I posted the pictures on my instagram of my eyelash extensions! So I figured I would do a post about them. I have resisted getting eyelash extensions for awhile now. They are very popular here in Utah, and so I have heard all sorts of good things and bad things about them. I have very sensitive eyes, and they are a pricey. So I honestly figured I would never try them.

Well, I work at a cosmetology school! They tend to talk you into things like going platinum/chopping your hair off, and tinting your eyebrows. It wasn't long before a student convinced me I should try them. Plus, she was going to do them for me for almost nothing! So I figured, now is my time to try these suckers out and see if I actually like them or not.

I wont lie, getting them put on sucks! It takes forrrrever, and by the end of it your eyes are tired and irritated and you just want to be done. The process is extremely tedious, I mean, they are putting a fake eyelash on every single individual lash. That takes time!

So right after they were done, my eyes were tired and irritated from the whole process of just laying down for forever, and I just wasn't sure about these things. But by the next morning it was if nothing had ever happened. I didn't feel them, they didn't bother me, no irritation, nothing. I was surprised because I have some pretty sensitive eyes! But that is my first advice to you about these, they SHOULDN'T be irritating, and they shouldn't hurt at all.

Another thing I was worried about was how everyone claims they ruin your natural eyelashes. Here is the low down on it. First, you have to make sure that whoever putting them on is using all the proper equipment and glue and has been trained. Your lashes naturally shed throughout the month. Everyone's "shed" rate is different, but in general most are every three weeks. If you notice your lash falling out, it is simply because your eyelash now has a giant on attached to it. Normally you would hardly notice when your eyelashes shed.

If whoever is doing the extensions is not trained properly and they are not putting them on each individual lash and are getting them on multiple ones, that will pull your other lashes out when the one sheds. That is not good. So if you are noticing a lot coming out in "clumps" etc. That is an indicator you should probably have someone else do your lashes for you.

Getting eyelash extensions is no different then getting hair extensions. Is it great for them? No. Does it do some damage, yes. But no different then brushing too hard and ripping some hair out of your head. However, if applied correctly, they shouldn't be ripping your eyelashes out, and should cause minimal damage. There is a student here who claims they have helped her eyelashes grow! Because she isn't putting make up on and rubbing it off every day, and consonantly rubbing her eyes etc. She has seen them become healthier and longer when she doesn't have the extensions on.

I have noticed I touch my eyes less, which is probably a good thing in regards to ripping my own eyelashes out, and wrinkles haha When all is said and done, I absoulty LOVE them! I have pretty good skin, so sometime I just wake up and go, I am already "put together" for my day. It has been really nice for while I have been traveling, because I don't have to worry about my make up. I can just put some chopstick or gloss on and it looks like I have a full face on! These are definitely a TIME SAVER! I think I will keep them around for awhile :)

SOME TIPS...

Don't play around with them or pull at them! You should receive a little eyelash brush from the person doing your lashes. You can use this to guide them back into place when you wake up with them all over. Don't go pulling at them!

Try not to sleep directly on your face.

Don't get them wet the first 24 hours of having them.

If you tend to rub your eyes a lot, I have learned a great technique which is good for you even if you don't have lash extensions. You use your fingers to rub the eye lid, but do it parallel to the lash line. I am not really sure how to describe it perfectly, but hopefully you get the idea.

So if you live in the area, you should send Harley a message! She did a great job, she is funny and talented. She was just picked to go to New York Fashion Week with Aveda, pretty awesome! Here is her facebook if you are interested in her pricing and availability.

Speaking of Aveda, did you know that the Aveda Institute in Provo is doing a $5.00 Summer Promo? That is $5.00 for all of their services! You could get a hair cut, 90 minute facial, and your nails done for $15.00 Oh and the nails are all OPI and you get to keep the bottle of nail polish after. That is a manicure and a nail polish worth $8.00 for $5.00!!! Yeah, you guys should really get in here!

  25. Glad you liked it! I am eyelash extension certified and I could not stand doing it. So tedious just like you said. I also had them put on once and it drove me nuts. I hated the crunchy feeling of my lashes haha. Yours look great! I am also loving all the changes at at the Institute! It looks like things have gotten much better since I went to school there, probably because of you my dear! :)

  26. Oh I'm so glad you tried them! You look incredible!!!

Taking that beauty plunge was the best thing I've done for myself in awhile. My eyes are super sensitive as well and I wasn't sure. They really are worth it though for some people, and with getting 10+ doses of my eye drops in every day they make my life so much easier. Love that you are sharing this today. :)

    xoxo.

  35. I've had my eyelashes permed before, but haven't gotten extensions. Do you ever find that they rub on the inside of your glasses? I'm a little afraid that it'd get crowded in the space between my face and my glasses since wearing mascara always ends in black streaks on my lenses :/

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Even my natural lashes will rub against my glasses depending on the style. If you are worried about it, you can actually get them in all different lengths and you can go shorter. Beauty of these is you DON'T wear mascara with them, so they wont smudge!!

  36. Thank you so much for posting this!! I have always wondered about eyelash extensions and yours look amazing! So when you have them, you don't even have to wear mascara, right??

Here is some info I like to share:
A very good option in semi permanent eyelashes goes to knowledgeable expert. knowledgeable expert will suggest you the proper quite eyelashes which will fit your style in terms of thickness, color and degrees of curl. Under this treatment, you'll receive a soothing environment like that of a spa where eyelash extensions are placed on your naturally existing eyelashes. These extensions require retouch sessions every 2 to three weeks in order that a more long lasting effect is retained. Also, this method is more costly needless to say in comparison to the house based kit option.
