mourning of the beard...


When I first met Trevor he had hair almost as long as mine and a full beard, a beautiful full beard :) I was smitten, obviously. Don't ask my why but I have always loved long haired and bearded men, the hairier the better! So you can understand my complaints I have with BYU. For those of you who aren't aware, students attending BYU are not allowed to have any facial hair and have to have shorter hair cuts. 

Apparently the Law School is a little more lax on this requirement, but Trevor still can't go certain places and take tests or use the gym facilities at the school etc. with a beard. Why is a clean face considered better when it comes to professionalism? I would personally go back to the old days where most men had beards! *le sigh*  

To make it worse Trevor's facial hair grows back so fast, that he can shave in the morning and by the end of the day have a 5 o'clock shadow again! So the poor guy is having to constantly shave and irritate his skin.

Anyways, just wanted to get my complaints out there and say that I am mourning the loss of the "the beard" today. Trevor had to go back to school and he shaved it all off this week :( I LOVED having the beard back over Christmas break, and I already miss him.

I just want my beard back.

    My husband goes to BYU and in November he grew out a mustache for no shave November because they can have mustaches at BYU but mustaches are worse than beards I think!

      so random they let them have mustaches and not beards, right?! haha Oh well, and yes, I agree, I am not a fan of mustaches, although trevor has had some gnarly ones in the past haha

    My boyfriend grows hair so fast too! He will shave and the next day I ask him the last time he's shaved because the hair has already come back so much!

    I never knew that it was a rule at BYU that you couldn't have facial hair though!

    I know how you feel! Dave can't have a beard in the military and it makes me so sad. So on weekends he gets to go without shaving and it makes me so incredibly happy!

      Well he should be happy because you do let him keep the flavor savor though... which to be honest I wouldn't let trevor have as much as I do love facial hair! haha

    That's so odd that they don't allow facial hair. My husband is loving his burly beard. He hasn't shaved since October. He's really in to Duck Dynasty, so he would love it if he could grow something similar to theirs ha!

    That is such an interesting rule! I've never heard of a college enforcing a rule of that sort - I can only imagine how that would've changed things at my college (in Maine, where the lumberjack look is so in!). I personally love a good "sweet lax flow" with a bit of scruff - also looked down upon in the profesh world. When we graduated & my boyfriend had a to get a dorky professional haircut, I was devastated!

      I guess they implemented it in the 70's haha But what is even funnier is the guy who founded the school and they have his statue everywhere has a big ol' beard :) haha I just love the irony!

    Caleb is the same way, he will have a 5 o clock shadow after he shaved the morning before! Craziness. I can't believe they don't allow clean shaven faces, doesn't seem right! ;) I love me a good beard. Caleb is obsessed with growing a mustache. I told him he can AFTER we tie the knot this May ;)

    Sometimes rules/law just make no sense at all! I think there is a city in the midwest where it is illegal to sing in the shower...or something odd like that! Maybe I am just like you and love a beard on a man and so this would make me upset as well haha!

    No beard card, eh? If it's super irritating, maybe he could try for one. All I know is I'd prefer beards to mustaches! But then again, it prevents those billy-goat beards that look like pit hair hanging off their chins...so maybe it's worth the sacrifice ;)

    Aw man, I love facial hair too, that's a bummer...there's something to be said about scruff, though. I like being able to see the outline of a guy's jaw underneath that facial hair, you know? Also, my boyfriend can grow a mean mustache...I can't decide which I like better. =]

    i personally love a clean-shaven man face. i love the soft skin when we nuzzle. haha my husband knows that if he has his "scratchy goatee" (he cant grow a beard)that i cant kiss him, because it tickles too much!

    sorry you have to mourn for it though. just think. summer isnt really THAT far away, right? :)

    I hated that when Eric was going to BYU. I think he looks much more handsome/more professional with some clean cut scruff! So we both enjoyed less shaving after he graduated......now he's got a job where facial hair isn't allowed. Bleh!

    I hate facial hair on my man! When my husband did the New Testament project in 2012 and 2011, I thought I would die. It was a full-on wilderness man beard. Granted, he wasn't allowed to groom it at all, period, which was hard. I don't mind a tiny bit of scruff but it honestly hurts my face and lips to kiss it.

    The weirdest thing about BYU's facial hair rules (and I graduated from BYU, don't worry) is that you ARE allowed to have a mustache, even a pedophile pencil 'stache, but not a beard. WHY?!!!! My twin brother tried to be funny and grew out a 'stache when we were there. He looked hideous.

    i think there is something chemically wrong with me. if my husband goes 2 days without shaving i get legitimately upset. this year he tried to do No Shave November and i raged. mostly it's because his facial hair comes in patchy and gross and it's really more of a neard (neck beard) than a beard. and i just hate it. if he were to let it go without shaving he would end up looking like John Taylor (the prophet. google it.)

    Haha I love this post! I think facial hair is hot. It just seems very manly. Like a woodsy manly man who could go chop down a tree or build you a house or protect you if you were danger. Does that make any sense?

    I'm sorry the beard is gone, Alycia. That seems like such a silly rule.

    facial hair on some men=heaven. facial hair on other men=heck. i used to hate it all together but lately i think its pretty dang sexy! just not mustaches. haha.

    Oh man, I wish my husband had some reason that he had to shave, because he only shaves about once a week or less and I don't like the scratchiness! He's a nurse--apparently they don't have to look nearly so professional. :P

    Ha. This cracks me up! Travis and I were just talking about facial hair on Saturday and how icky we think it is. All I can think when I see men with beard is that they're full of food and crumbs. Anyway, all of his brothers have facial hair and Travis and I both find it grodie. And I even said "What woman likes facial hair? I just don't get that." Ha!

    I like my man with a little scruff too. Though some times it hurts my soft little cheeks and if he knows he's seeing me the next day. he shaves just for me. SO thoughtful ;)
    I can't imagine mine with long hair too. Since he was in the military for so long he likes his short hair, I don't complain. I like him just as he is ;)

    Once we graduated from BYU, Cory started sporting facial hair just cuz he could. And he definitely needs to get a beard card if he has to shave that often. Look into that :)

    Oh.. even being a member I didn't know abot this BYU rule!

    When I dated my husband, he clean shaved every day... Then after dating me for a while I kinda let him know that men with a bristle look sexy... And oh man, he looks soooo good with it =)))))) Fortunately he lets it grow much more often now =))) So whenever he clean shaves I miss that bristle again =))))
