accent vlog.

So I have seen these accent vlogs going around for the past several months. I know I am way behind the trend... but I thought it would be fun to do one!

disclaimer...
Yes, I am in my work office, but NO I am not making a vlog while at work! I came in on a Saturday to do some extra stuff and thought it was a quiet place I could do it without disturbing Trevor. With that said.... here you go people :)

could this video still be any more awkward? haha oh boy...

Say the following words:
Aunt, route, wash, oil, theater, iron, salmon, caramel, fire, water, sure, data, ruin, crayon, toilet, New Orleans, pecan, both, again, probably, spitting image, Alabama, lawyer, coupon, mayonnaise, syrup, pajamas, caught
Answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that curls into a ball when you touch it?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you use to change the TV channel?

So do I have an accent, do YOU have an accent?

Oh and who knows what a garburator is? No cheating! haha :)

  2. so fun! A garburator is a garbage disposal right? My brother in law is canadian and we enjoy teasing him about somethings!

  3. Ummmm. The guess from Hubby and I is a garbage disposal. Probably way off, but hey, whatever!
I don't really think you have an accent, although sometimes you sound like you have a little southern twang.
And Goonies - best thing ever.

  4. You are too cute! This makes me want to do a vlog now haha - not sure if I can jump on the accent vlog wagon those as I might be a little late? Anyway, yours was adorable! I found myself nodding my head at some and wondering what I would say for others. Cute - cute!

  8. haha this is adorable. i've been thinking of doing one for a while now, because i from canadaland & haven't seen a canadian one yet. a garburator is the thing in your sink where you put potato peels and crap & grinds 'em up for the compost.
true story when i moved into my apt for school in sept i saw a light switch above the sink and i got mad when it wasn't a garburator. never even occured to be it coulda been for oh, i don't know, a light?! haha, i'm from southwestern ontario.

i never really thought i had an accent before, but since moving away for school people keep pointing out i have a bit of a "hick" accent when i say certain words. eh it's whatcha get from coming from a farming town i guess.

  9. Soooo I loved you until I heard that you killed "Rollie Pollie's" hahahaha only kidding, in Utah we called them Potato bugs, funny!! adorable little video!! :) Give me more!!!

  10. I know what a garburator is! Only the best thing ever. Garbage disposal in your sink! So the drain never gets clogged when food goes down. It makes doing the dishes a million times less gross because you don't have to clean out any bits of food when you're done. I'm from Canada though so of course I know.

Do they not have those in the States or is it called something different?

How about Chesterfield, touque, and poutine? I totally thought you were going to say Chesterfield for the weird Canadian word.

You certainly sound like you're from the States--and more like you're from Utah than San Diego. I hope that's not an insult.

    Fun video!

  11. Dang I kept cracking up! But what got me was grocery cart comment - that is not a dumb question! We call it a buggy - but I've also heard it called a shopping cart.

I thought the rain question deserved the dumb question comment!

Haha - thanks for the laugh!

  12. You are too cute. You don't seem to have an accent really, but I love that you say Pop, because I do too!

And being from Minnesota, I know that a garburator is a garbage disposal!

    ReplyDelete
  13. haha! The other word for grocery cart is "buggy." :) And I think the other option for the toilet paper question is "rolling." I love how everyone thinks they're right and everyone else is wrong! :) I kinda want to do one of these but I don't really have an accent...

  14. cute video! and a garburater is a garbage disposal....like down your kitchen sink...i also have no idea how to spell it! lol!
I'm Canadian, originally from Ontario, but currently living in Vancouver. I was told while travelling in Europe that I sounded super Canadian, however my Bf tells me that sometimes i sound like i'm from the mid-west! weird!

  15. super cute! loved hearing how you sound :) ummmm, this makes me wanna do an accent vlog! maybe i will lol :)

  16. This is so cool! Being a South African living in the US my accent is all sorts of messed up right now but I say so many of those things differently.
Im so tempted to make my own vlog since its so totally different to yours. Think I'll do that tonight. :)

  18. I love this! I remember seeing a few of these vlogs a while back but I never got a chance to do one. Maybe I will now!! :)

We would always calling the "toilet papering" of a house "TPing" or "rolling". Not that I ever did that... **innocent look**.

    Have a great day!

    :)

  21. I'm from Ontario & I had noooooooo idea what a garburator was, until I read the comments. Haha!

  22. so funny about the sOrry bit...I have a friend from Canada and she says that all the time and I gift her crap for it! :) Also, don't worry about the whole bug killing...I used to do that on a farm with those really ugly caterpillars, we'd run over them with our bikes to see what color they'd squish out, ewww, I know!!

and for the record, I don't think you have an accent! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I do the same thing with pronouncing caramel two different ways! It's weird! And I remember when I saw one of these vlogs a while back and I saw the "grocery cart" question and I was like "what on earth would you call it other than that?" but the vlog I watched it on called it a "buggy"! I might have to try this out! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't know if you've watched this accent vlog but she will probably answer your questions about the other names to call things...i think most of the questions are geared toward southern people.

  25. Of course i know what a garburator (spelling?) is! A garbage disposal in the sink :) What do americans call it? Living in australia, you have no idea how many times a day i get called on the funny things i say and how many times i'm shocked at the crazy things aussies say!

  26. How cute!
I don't know what a Canadian garburator is, but for my old Samoan grandfather, that'd be his broken English way of saying carburetor.
    Your video is adorable!
Hope you're surviving this Utah cold and the little snow on the ground today!

  27. i don't think you have an accent at ALL! just cute little ways you say certain words :) but we all do that!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Alycia this was too cute! I never called your gym shoes "tennis shoes" Dad & I have always called them "runners". I do know what a garburator is :D We either called it "toilet papering" or "t'ping". You made me laugh at certain parts - especially when you talked about some of the questions you thought were dumb :) And you're right....I don't like it when people here say "sawry" instead of "sOrry".

And I think I recognize the view out your window in Provo. I think my husband worked in a building around there.
Oh, and my guess on a garberator (however you spell it) would be the garbage disposal in the sink.

  33. garbage disposal

Though I always thought it was funny the way you pronounced the top part of the house and the place where you keep your cars parked.

Those and the last letter of the alphabet. :)

  34. Is garburator not a universal term?? Haha!! I am from Montreal originally, grew up in Calgary and now live in Toronto! It is really funny to hear people pronouncing these words- love it!

  35. Haha, I love you vlog - to me you definitely DO have an accent. That's just because I'm an English South African so our pronunciation of those words are completely different. :)
