Where are all my hockey fans?
As some of you may have picked up from reading this blog I played Lacrosse from middle school and through out high school. I have played on college club teams, as well as the woman's league in San Diego.
I even had the amazing opportunity to coach at Brighton High School (I wish I had more time for coaching....someday I will again!)
With that said, did you all know that Canada's original national sport was NOT hockey? It was Lacrosse!
Now Lacrosse is the national summer sport, and Hockey is the national winter sport.
In fact Hockey and Lacrosse have a lot of similarities.
Anyways the whole point of this conversation is to say.... Although I tend to get caught up in college football around this time of year (GO UTES!) I can't forget about my homeland's favorite sport!
HOCKEY SEASON ANYONE?
Hockey is such an exciting sport to watch, and if you are from Canada you have to have a team you support. You can't avoid it, you are just born into it. My family are Oiler fans :)
Imagine my mother's dismay when my sister married a Calgary Flames fan (The Horror!) haha
So in honor of the NHL Hockey season starting this month, I have been sporting my big comfy Oilers shirt around the apartment while I study and do homework.
I LOVE IT.
Cool side-note... my cousin Zach Hodder is an amazing hockey player. I wish I lived up north so I could get to see him play! He currently plays for the Vancouver Giants who are a Major Junior ice hockey team!
i have never gotten into watching hockey! lol! you are too cute! :) happy monday!
ReplyDeleteI wish I would watch more hockey...and love that photo:) You look cute!
ReplyDeleteHugs and kisses,sweetie
I never got into watch hockey...but while I was in Nashville attending a conference the St. Louis Blues (I'm from Missouri) were in town playing the Nashville team. I haven't heard who won but it was fun to see all the Blues fans!

ReplyDeletemy brother played hockey for 12 years, so i definitely have an appreciation. minus i'm a bruins fan technically, and that hasn't worked out too well.
and my parents are horrified that JJ is a lakers fan when we are all die hard celtics fans. but its so much more fun heckling and watching games together!
I loooove hockey (thanks to my boyfriend). I really got into it in college since our team was always ranked in the top 10 of the U.S. Love hockey season!!
ReplyDeleteI married into a hockey family & we are huge oiler fans too :) hopefully we can finally start winning more! :) LOVE the shirt!
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about pro hockey but my old middle school didn't have a football team, just hockey. I fell in love with the sport!
ReplyDeletedear new friend. we have many things in common.. like lacrosse.. you're the only blogger i know that has played, oh how refreshing this discovery is.
ReplyDeleteO man LOVE lax & hockey! My little sister plays lax and got MvP goalie when her team won the state championship!

ReplyDeleteMy best friend from college is a huge hockey fan, so whenever I see it or hear about it, I think of her! She was working for the Tampa Bay Lightening when they won the Stanley Cup, which was cool...so she has a ring! :) FUN...and you look adorable!
ReplyDeleteLiesl :)
Never got into hockey either.... it's all about cricket where I'm from :)
ReplyDeleteGo Oilers! We all need to work on Evan to make sure he doesn't grow up to be a Flames fan. We'll make him an Oilers fan yet.
ReplyDeleteGrandma would love your post! Grandpa tells me that the Oilers have a young up & coming team and they are looking real good :)
ReplyDeletehaha you are so cute :) good luck with your studies!!
ReplyDeletelove wearing the comfies while studying. :) i personally wear my saints attire. :)
ReplyDeleteMy dad is a huuuuuuuuuuge Montreal Canadiens fan! So, I'm a Habs fan all the way!! :)
ReplyDeleteBeing from this part of Michigan, I'm definitely a hockey fan! I love the Red Wings. There's a reason Detroiters often refer to Detroit as "Hockeytown, USA." :)
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, yes! ME! I'm the biggest hockey fan! In fact, I'm watching the Wild and Vancouver as I write this post! In my opinion, the best sport on the planet (My son plays, too, so I am a "hockey mom." Yikes! Just to let you know, my son's AAA Coach's son plays for the Oilers. Yep.).
ReplyDeleteThe Wild are winning so I'm pretty happy!
Glad to have found another fan. I think your shirt is fabulous!
I'm not a hockey fan,but I do like your hair color!
ReplyDeleteI feel like I just made a total connection with you! My dad played hockey, my father in law played and coached hockey, and my husband played hockey in HS and college! I can't say that I watch it all that much, and once I asked my husband when half time was at a hockey game, but never the less. It's in my blood! I'm a Bruins fan.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Canadian and don't have a team. And I don't watch hockey! Ahh Shame!
ReplyDeleteI was a big St. Louis Blues fan growing up... but since moving to TN there's NO hockey coverage. These Southerners aren't really sure what to do with the ice and the puck!
