"What's in a name?"

First and foremost....NO I am not pregnant. Now that we have that out of the way... ever since me and Trevor became boyfriend and girlfriend, we would  talk/joke about our future children. How many we would have and what we would name them (I know we are not the only couple that has to have done this, I mean don't ALL couples joke/talk about this sometimes?) Anyways, if it is normal or not, it is something that me and Trevor would talk about. Amongst these conversations we came to the realization that we have very different tastes in names. I thought all the names he really liked were horrible and boring... and he wasn't a huge fan of any of my name ideas either.
Around the time we were engaged and the topic would come up, we knew that someday we would actually be having children together. So the conversations would get a little more serious. When talking about girls names, it wasn't so bad in finding names we both liked (probably because Trevor is seriously convinced we having all boys, ha!)
We agree on a couple girl names (Madelyn Grayce, Emma Marie)... which coming to that agreement was a feat in and of itself! The girl names are pretty easy compared to the real issue we have...
Now we don't plan on having kiddos for awhile... but we just do not agree at ALL on boys names. AT ALL! We just have such different tastes. We have not found ONE name that both of us even kind of like mutually. I told Trevor if he plans on us having all boys we better start now on trying to pick out names because we are going to be that couple that has a baby and the kid doesn't have a name for several months after... we will have the child called "it."

So I am taking this issue to the blog world. Trevor's all time favorite boy
 name is.... are you ready?

Duke.

Yes, you just read correctly... Duke.

Now no offense out there for people who are named Duke... or love the name Duke... but what is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name Duke? Thoughts people?...
I hope everyone just said DOG in their heads too! So everyone... please tell Trevor that MOST people think Duke is a dog name... or an animal name... or the name for a royal. Thank You.

  2. yeah...I was thinking dog...glad you said it though. Its cute though! for a puppy! maybe compromise and make it a middle name?

  3. That's exactly what I thought. Duke is a dog. Not a baby! Boston & Milo are two names I really like for boys.

  4. I think everyone is in this together because I thought of a dog too haha
Boy names are totally hard; I have a list on my computer (yeah, I'll admit it!) with only a few boy names that I like and far more girl names.

  5. Boys names are super hard! I'm still deciding on my future boys names. lol
Duke is a little dog like. But i would compromise and make it a middle name. It fits as a middle name much better.

  6. Yep, the first thing I thought of was a dog. My husband and I had the same difficulties coming up with boys' names...That's probably why we've been blessed with nothing but boys. And go figure... we agreed on a girl's name right away (and yes, we, too, joked about kids and what their names would be early on in our relationship).

  10. I don't mind it, but I definitely think it's a dogs name! You forgot to say what boys names you like!!! I can't wait for you to have babies :)

  11. I think of a dog when I hear it also. You cannot name a baby Duke. Does he like any traditional boy names?

  13. Duke is either a dog or a crappy character in an old western. Not suitable for a baby. My opinion is the woman gets the final say, because you're the one who has to carry any and all babies around for 9 months, then deliver them. And my husband refused to believe we'd ever have a girl, now we have two.

  14. DOG! it's a dog name haha
we have the opposite problems, having a hard time with girl names! but it doesn't matter because our first child WILL be a boy haha

  17. Michael and I decided when we were dating that our future dog will be named Duke!

  18. Definitely a dog name. I've met more than one puppy named Duke and when you first mentioned it I thought of that dog movie called Marmaduke.

  19. Kev and I are the same for boy names. There just aren't a lot of good ones and the ones I like he thinks are too old fashioned or girly.

And Duke is totally a dog name.

  20. Yep. I thought of a dog. Except, I also thought of Channing Tatum's character in "She's The Man". Duke Orcino. He's totally hot, so that's good.

  21. hehe yes... i thought of a dog when i read the name "Duke"

  22. My first thought was the Dukes of Hazzard tv series.

  23. Yes dog was the first thing that came to mind. I suggest avoiding all german boy names...they are pretty awful. We agreed upon a couple girl names and had absolutely no boy names in mind when we found out we were expecting a boy. The name we think we will use we heard on tv....so you'll come up with something that works for you. Peter vetoed most names I came up with and I did the same for what he came up with.

  24. Growing up I had a dog named Dukey... I'm not a fan. But my husband seriously wants to name one of our kids Duce and I all I can think of is- drop a Duce. Gross I know, sorry. Good luck hope you win.

  30. Instantly thought, dog name, especially because my cousin's beagle is named Duke. I have two girls, we have not completely ruled out a third child but if we were to have another and if it were to be a boy, oh my word, it would be "on"! We totally cannot agree on boys names either. Perhaps you could choose the first name, since you'll be carrying the child and giving birth... and he could choose the middle name? :)

  31. I just thought I'd add that I like the name Duke. Also, if you think Trevor has an odd taste in names you should talk to me sometime. Serene thinks the reason we only have girls is because God is sparing my sons the humiliation of being named by me.

    My current favorite:
    Percival.

    Last week's favorite:
    Erasmus

    I'm not joking.

  32. Oh my, I must admit, I totally thought, that the name Duke would be adorable on a spaniel puppy. My favorite boy name is Noah, but that's just me.

  37. Definite dog name! Veto Duke. If he doesn't like all of our (correct) opinions, then his say should be vetoed too! Haha.

  38. I will admit, I have known a dog named Duke before. He was a really cool dog, but a dog nonetheless. However, more than dog thoughts, Duke gives me Dukes of Hazard thoughts. I'm not sure which is worse. Picturing your baby with big ears and a tail, or picturing your baby with really really short cut off jeans? It's a toss up.

  39. Hi this is Fallon. I will admit I did instantly think Dog. Mike and I had the same problem. He wanted are your ready for this MOSES!!! But after he sees you suffer through pregnancy he will let you name it what ever you want. Ps. thank you for your prayers for Mike.

  46. i think of 'the duke' from moulin rouge. which, honestly, if my name was duke i would rather have people thinking it was a dog name than reminding them of 'the duke' from moulin rouge.

  48. oh that is funny! i think of dukes of hazard... not sure that's the best thing. maybe duke can be the nickname (non-affiliated in any way with boy's real name!) i'm glad we don't have this problem, since we're expecting a boy! :)
