variety...



I have been really working hard on making this my routine! :) I think I am just now starting to really develop everything into a habit!

So basically Jillian Michaels kicked my trash. Remember how I was trying to complete the 30 Day Shred Challenge? Well, I will just be point blank honest. I did really good, really good until about half way through. Doing the same thing every day is just not my thing! I need variety! Granted her workouts do have three different levels, but I just didn't feel it was different enough, or "fun" enough to keep my attention. 

Don't get me wrong, I think her workout DVDS are the bomb - they give you a great workout and they do produce results! However, I was bored out of my mind and found myself saying things like "Ugh, I just wish I could go to the gym today and run instead of doing Jillian!" Okay people, if you at any point want to work out and something else is motivating you, DO IT. As long as you are getting in that burn, who cares how you are doing it, right?

So in conclusion, I saw a huge difference in my strength. I am pathetic at push ups, and just after week one I could actually keep up in doing them, it felt great to notice that difference in your own body. I was like "TREVOR, I am doing more then two push ups in a row!!!" I was pretty dang proud of myself for that one.

My biggest problem area has always been my butt and thighs. As a doctor once told me, "You have birthing hips!" Um, yeah, thanks dude. Thanks. So my newest interest (I move on fast, like I said, variety people) is the Brazilian Butt Lift Work Out DVDS. What I love about them is you can pick work outs and tailor them to your specific body type. Pear shapes raise your hands up high!!! 

So far I have been LOVING the Brazilian Butt Lift DVD's. They are so much fun and I have already seen some great results from it (five pound loss!). I will definitely be doing an update on that soon!

If you guys are more curious about specific results from the 30 Day Shred, I had a wonderful instagram follower who was WAY more dedicated and motivated then me, and I am pretty sure she kept track of everything from her weight and  measurements - something I took note of and did before I started the Brazilian Butt Lift work out - feel free to ask her about her experience :) She rocks!

  1. Okay, this is just what I needed.

    I love running outside, but the weather where I live + my crazy schedule makes it a little difficult to make running as much of a habit as I'd like. So maybe DVDs are the answer to my problem? :)

    I'm always skeptical about weight-loss programs, magical weight-loss shakes, and all those other crazy diets but hearing that something actually worked from a real person (haha) is pretty inspiring! It sounds like you're doing all the right things to lead a healthy lifestyle :) You go girl.

    For a first time DVD-er, what would you recommend?

  4. I do Jillian's "Banish Fat Boost Metabolism" DVD. The production quality is a lot higher than 30-Day Shred and I feel like it's a lot harder! There are 7 circuits, plus a warm-up and cool-down. She alternates between kick-boxing, plyometrics and calisthenics. The most I've ever done is 5 circuits and at that point I felt like I was in the best shape of my life, and that was a 35-minute SWEAT-DRIPPING workout. So it's more challenging than 30-Day and also there's no program, meaning you don't have to do it every day. I do it 2-3 times a week and just do other workouts on my off-days.

    2. The BFBM DVD is NO joke! I used it a lot last year when I didn't have a gym membership and I was always exhausted by the end. Definitely a big bang for your buck!

  5. Great post, I often get a little bored of workouts and always feel like if I decided to try something out each 3 weeks at least I am working out!

  12. Yup, I'm all about variety too! I have 3 different DVDs that I like to rotate along with running. Way better than doing the same thing over and over. I'm checking out the Buttlift now!

    1. I got my online and just searched for the best price. It is by far the most I have ever spent on workout DVDS before, but so far I would say it was very worth it!

  15. After having my son at the beginning of 2011, I decided in August of that year to start the Couch to 5K with a friend. About a month into running 3 times a week with her we were surprised to find out I was expecting again! After such a shock, I am so afraid to start working out again! I know that sounds silly but if it happened once, it can happen again. She was the best surprise of our lives, don't get me wrong, but I often use that as my excuse not to really get back into shape. I'm back to my pre baby weight but really need to tone! Here's to Spring time bringing me the courage to get back into shape!

  17. I've been working my way through 30 day shred, but it's kind of hard getting it in *every* day. I know I know, half an hour how hard is that. But life gets in the way some days. So I figure as long as I keep it up (Jillian's voice in my head "do not stop" haha) it's okay if I miss a day or two here and there. But yes, you're so right about it getting monotonous. I feel like I could quote level 1 to you hahah

  19. I found that it's really easy to get bored with workout DVDs, so I started putting them on my Netflix. I almost always have a different one and have actually found some fun new workouts that I would have never tried otherwise.

  21. I have been so curious about the brazillian butt work out! I've tried everything to try and tone my arse up but it seems like that area of me (and upper thighs) just wants the cottage cheese look. Please say this helps burn those areas, and i'll go out and buy the dvds today!

  23. Okay miss Alycia, you should totally make your way back to the gym for body pump! Zumba is also insanely fun and hard if you put in the effort, and there are some amazing teachers at 24. My husband and I also really enjoy the cycle class. Just some thoughts if you are continuing to look for ways to switch it up! (And who doesn't want a female gym buddy, amiright? I mean as much as I love my husband, sometimes I just need some girl work out time!)

  24. yay for you! anything you do that makes you sweaty and happy at the same time (or even one after the other, really...) is wonderful.
    and I know what you mean about the jillian dvds- or any sort of workout, really. I just to do a little of everything, and mix it up so you don't have the same muscles getting sore and worn out, you know?
    but it's so individual that I can only tell you to find what you love :)

    1. The Brazilian Butt Lift DVDs are from the Beach Body family, I hadn't heard of it before I got these. I am now interested in them and their other DVDs since I have loved these ones! I will have to look into that TurboFire!

  29. Just pinned your pic to my workout inspiration page! I did about a week and a half of Jillian Michael's 30 Day Ripped and then fell down with the flu for about a week. Soooo pretty much I was ticked. I'm debating on whether I want to just start from week 2 workouts, or just start all over from the beginning. I'm with you, I like variety but when something works then I might as well go along with it, right? I'm gonna start the 30 Day Ripped again and mix in some running and tennis :)

  31. After my wedding 3 months ago I gained about 15 pounds... Seriously??15 pounds in 3 months?? Unfortunately that is true =(((((
    I've always drank lots of water... and 1,5 month ago I started working to gym... And I eat much more healthy stuff like fruits and vegetables.... But I only gain weight =(((( And my legs and butt just won't look any better .....
    And that SUCKS!!!
    But it's really cool that things work out for you muuuuuuch better =))))

    1. I also put on a lot of Wakena short amount of time. The thing is, it actually is taken me a while to figure out how to consistently lose it and change my eating habits. So don't give up Natasha, it will come!
