40 Weeks Pregnancy Update

DRESS: C/O Target SWEATER: Cotton On (Similar)

I am 40 weeks and 4 days pregnant! Baby girl is as big as a Jack Fruit, whatever that is? haha I am officially "past due" and let me tell you, I feel it! Last week at my appointment I was dilated to a 1, so I was really excited to see if anything had changed at my doctor's appointment today. I was still dilated to a 1, however, I had completely softened, and my doctor said the only thing holding me up from dilating was the fact that I haven't really been having any contractions. Because my cervix has softened, once I start having contractions, the dilation will amp up! My doctor stripped my membranes, which I was really nervous about doing, but thankfully it wasn't bad at all. I had totally hyped it up in my head. I mean, sure, it was really uncomfortable, and it "hurt" but not much worse than the cervical exams you get weekly at this point anyways. Both my doctor and I hope the stripping gets my body going over the next 24 hours! I feel a little achy but so far, that is it. Cross your fingers people. I would really like to start on my own and not be induced.

My Mom is flying in late tonight so she will be here for the labor and delivery. Trevor and I are going on a little date night tonight because who knows if this could be our last without needing a babysitter! Isn't that a thought? Crazy! Hopefully my next blog post will be a baby girl announcement. Stay tuned :)

  1. You and I are in the exact same situation - to the day and measurements, how the membrane strip went, everything. The last three weeks I've been at about 1 cm, and today I was maybe 1.5-2 so she was able to get in to do a stretch and sweep today. Feeling crampy and having what I'm pretty sure are contractions on and off but nothing un-ignorable or timeable yet. I hope we both have our babies in our arms within 24 hours!! Sounds like you're having a better time with your attitude than I am - I'm feeling sad and anxious about lack of progress and like I have no idea what I'm doing. Everyone says "you'll know when you have a contraction" but sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, and most of the time I just don't know. It's comforting to hear you're in the exact same situation I am. Like, eerily exact lol. Sending good labor vibes your way. <3

  4. Drink tons of red raspberry leaf tea. I'll bring you some tomorrow . text or Facebook me your address.... It's not proven to induce but it helped me after stripped membranes. If nothing else, it strengthens your uterus

  7. Can't wait to hear your news, so exciting! I had heard that taking evening primrose oil capsules could help to bring on labour and I thought it was a complete myth but I tried it anyway! I went into labour less than 24 hours later! Not sure if it was a coincidence or not :-). Best of luck, lady!

  8. Good luck, you are almost there!! I know you don't know me but I have been following your blog for a while!
Just wanted to say, With both my boys, I "wasn't even close" to being dilated, as my Dr. put it. But the first one, I was 38 weeks, and really up set she said that since I had been having lots of pressure and pain in my back (which were contractions, come to find out), my husband took me on a date to Olive Garden to cheer me up. 4 hours after my appointment and in the middle of dinner, I started having contractions but didn't think anything of it until we got home and I couldn't fall asleep from the pain I was feeling in my back. I had my son the next day, 19 hours of BACK labor, got to 10cm, he was sunny side up and stuck behind my pelvic bone, and resulting in emergency c-section. (not to scare you.) The next pregnancy, I was attempting a VBAC (17 months after my first was born), I tried everything to go into labor on my own before my scheduled c section for his due date. 39 weeks approached and I was so frustrated I was still pregnant and stressed because I wanted to try my VBAC, I had exactly 1 week to go into labor on my own! Husband took my first born and me to Red Lobster to cheer me up again haha I woke up at 2 am to use the bathroom the same night and started having contractions! After 8 hours of labor and getting to an 8, I had another c section because it was becoming risky.

The point i'm trying to make is, I swear going out to eat will put you in labor! HAHAH! Good Luck! Can't wait to see pictures and hear how things went! :)

  13. Look up accupressure to induce labor (different from acupuncture...with needles). This is something you could do on your own, or with Trevor's help. I had a doula with Grayson and she came over and administered it with my husband. It was painful at times (basically they push HARD on certain pressure points), but I went into labor that night and had a baby a little over 24 hours later! Could have been a coincidence, but it couldn't hurt! If that makes you nervous, just go for a regular ol' foot rub! Just make sure Trevor pushes harder than usual while massaging. You have a lot of pressure points in your feet and ankles. :) Good luck with everything!!! You got this!
