16 Weeks Pregnancy Update

TOP: SIMILAR  SKIRT: ASOS (It is on mega SALE right now!) LIPSTICK: MAC

How far along: I am 16 weeks and 4 days

How big is baby: The size of an avocado! While grocery shopping with Trevor I had to stop a take a picture of an avocado. Our baby could fit in the palm of my hand. I just won't ever stop being amazed with how fast babies grow.

Weight Gain: Still at 8 pounds.

Maternity clothes: I actually ordered a bunch of stuff last week, and got some of it. I can already tell I am going to be so much more comfortable than I have been!

Stretch marks: Same few on my chest, and I think I spotted a really tiny one on my hip. My mother has a lot of stretch marks, and from everything I have read it pretty much comes down to genetics. However my sister didn't really get any. So who knows? I expect a few, but am hoping I can help with the appearance of them with drinking of lots of water and lotioning up that stretching skin!

Sleep: Still not great. Probably need to invest in one of those body pillows that everyone is always talking about. Still lots of Pregnancy Rhinitis, ugh!

Craving: I feel like my cravings have passed. In fact I am feeling I want to take my health up a notch and try cutting down my sugar to no sugar during the week. I am normally not a sweets girl but this pregnancy I have been eating way more sweets then I normally do and I would like to nip it in the bud. Obviously I wouldn't cut out natural sugars, but just those extra sweet treats that have some how found there way into my daily diet where they don't belong!

Feeling: A little more emotional these days, thanks hormones! I am getting more and more energy back, and getting less and less nauseous. I am gagging a lot less, yay for that! haha

Random: When my sister was in town she brought me a bunch of stuff like a pack of newborn diapers she had left over, some maternity clothes, and a book. The book was Ina May's Guide to Childbirth, and she wrote me a beautiful note inside. I started it the other night and can't get enough of it. Anyone gearing up for childbirth, natural or not, I think it is a must read. Just gives you some amazing insight into your body and how powerful we are as women. I think it is so important to know what is happening to your body and why during labor!

  4. I love Ina May's Guide to Childbirth! I give it to all of my friends regardless of if they are going natural or not - it just makes you feel more empowered as a woman and how crazy strong our bodies really are. I didn't get stretch marks until my last few weeks with my first and after he was born I just exfoliated those areas even more with a loofa (until the area was a bit red) and they were basically gone within 3 or 4 months postpartum. They are coming back now that I'm pregnant again but very lightly so I'm sure if I exfoliate again postpartum they will "disappear" - although they aren't totally gone but since I have such light skin they aren't noticeable really. You look amazing, have a great pregnancy!

    1. I just got a bunch from Pink Blush Maternity, I will be doing a post about them soon. Old Navy has some good stuff, and I got some pants off Hautelook! Hope that helps, it really is hard finding stuff.

  6. So cute! I wouldn't worry too much about stretch marks, it seems like it's different for everyone. My mom and sister had a ton of stretch marks, but I didn't get any even though I was so mentally prepared. haha
I am loving your pregnancy posts You are totally adorable and have the cutest maternity style. :)

  7. This is actually not Whitney.....just borrowing her profile so I can comment! Someone gave me the tip of rubbing aloe vera on your stomach morning and night while pregnant to avoid stretch marks. I decided to try it as my mom has a ton of stretch marks and I have them on my hips from my growth spurt in the 8th grade. I did it with all 3 pregnancies and was HUGE with all 3 (I gained 45 pounds with Whitney).....and didn't get one stretch mark. Worth a shot! Julene

  8. Reading a ton of birth stories was one of my favorite things when I was pregnant! Every one is different! I agree- every woman should research all the steps of labor. Otherwise, you'll panic. Don't fight the pain! And relax those muscles! Thinking about labor kind of makes me excited.
    Here's my story :)

  9. Reading books is a good thing to do. I read the what to expect when you're expecting when I was expecting both and got different information each time. Some I remembered, some was brand new as I was experiencing different things. There's also some about hypno breathing that I've heard is pretty good. I've never tried that one.

  10. I haven't read that book, but I've seen The Business of Being Born and More Business of Being Born, and that author is in both of those documentaries a fair amount. I'm SO into childbirth/breastfeeding stuff! I had a natural labor and delivery, so if you ever have any questions, feel free to ask! :) Of course every woman and baby is different, but if you're like me, you enjoy hearing others' stories and their perspectives on things. :) Congrats! You look lovely!

    1. Yes I have seen both of those documentaries as well, and she is in them a lot. If you liked those documentaries you will love the book even more! :) I do love hearing other's stories. Both my mother and sister had natural child birth's, and I am wanting one as well.

    2. I think it's awesome that you're preparing yourself for a natural childbirth! Coming from someone who whole heartedly wanted an epidural, but didn't have enough time to get one, it really isn't that bad, so if you're prepared for it, you'll totally rock it! I hope you have a great labor and delivery!

    4. That is nuts your babe came so fast! The human body is a powerful tool, I think society and culture undermines it :)
