valuing moments & making memories

Cold mornings make it so painful to get out of bed. For some reason our heat never turns on when it is supposed to, so the mornings have been getting chillier then I would like lately. Every morning Trevor reluctantly pulls himself out of bed to go turn the heat up, and quickly jumps back in to cuddle up and get warm. This is the start of something that is becoming a routine.

Our alarms go off, we turn them off, Trevor gets up and turns the heat up, and comes back into bed. We then continue to cuddle and fall back to sleep, for almost another hour sometimes! It has been messing up the start of our day, but we are just so comfortable, so happy, and loving every minute in the mornings together and no one wants to be the first to move.

The other morning when this happened again, I was mostly awake, just enjoying the warmth of my bed. Trevor was half asleep, with his head on my shoulder. I started playing with his hair. I knew I should probably get up and start getting ready... but how do you interrupt a moment like that?!

Just us, in the quiet of the morning, fully relaxed. I decided that I was going to soak up every second I could of that moment, because that is what matters in life. THAT MOMENT mattered. I figured getting into work a little later then normal that day was not worth cutting that short. At the end of my life those extra minutes at work will mean nothing. It is those extra moments that we take and value with our loved ones that will build up those memories that make up what is a beautiful, well lived life.

  10. I've been feeling this way a lot lately--especially with my baby girl's first birthday coming up soon... too soon. Life is short. I need to take the time to slow down and enjoy the most important people in my life.

By the way, that picture of you and Trevor is adorable and I absolutely love your blog. You're kind of a blogging inspiration. It's so fun to see where life has taken you since college :)

  16. Yes! Sometimes when my baby is taking a nap my two year old will snuggle up on my lap to watch a show. I shouldn't let her watch so much TV! I have chores that need to be done! But in the end, there will come a day when she wont want to sit on my lap anymore, so I just soak it in as much as possible and really enjoy it. You are so right to do that.
