finding the right balance...

image circa 2009.

One big key to a happy life is finding a healthy balance in everything we do. I am sure we are all working on being better at this, I know I sure am. I started this blog as a way to stay connected to my family back in San Diego while I attended school at the University of Utah. I rarely used it, I think I have about five posts from back then? haha

It wasn't until I got married that I really started using my blog. I thought it was such a fun way to document your life, and a way to share what we were up to for family and friends that didn't live nearby.

Sometimes I have blogged a lot, other times not so much. Usually that was reflected in what was going on in my life. I pretty much stopped blogging for two months when I was finishing my Bachelor's degree and getting ready for graduation, and recently I didn't blog much because I was searching for a second job. I feel like I have always been pretty good at prioritizing what is important. Real life needs to take priority over the blog.

While this blog started off as a personal family blog, it slowly transitioned into a representation of posts that reflected my interests. It has transitioned into many different things over the years - sometimes I feel like it is constantly changing. This doesn't necessarily bother me, it is my space for creativity, however lately I have been feeling a pull towards a more balanced, simplified lifestyle. Going back to the origins of what this blog was supposed to be all about. Maybe you noticed that last week.

I have always enjoyed style and fashion, and have truly benefited personally from exploring my personal style on my blog. I feel like I have really come to know my style, something I feel I wasn't really aware of before I started blogging. I don't plan on taking fashion related posts completely out of my blog - I mean, lets be serious here I LOVE clothes :), but I do feel like my personal style posts are something I have explored, benefited from, and that I have completed that chapter.

I want to transition back to the origins of this blog. It is supposed to be about the "crowley party" - a blog about me and my husband and our life together. I will still post and share about my interests on my blog. I just feel like right now it is a blog about my interests with a dash of my family, and I want it to be the other way around. I want the main focus of my blog to be about my family, and then have my interests and passions sprinkled in between it all.

I feel like the changes will be pretty subtle and nothing too drastic, you will just see more of me and trevor on the blog like it used to be. My blog has taken so many twists and turns over the last couple years, and I appreciate all of you who come to read the thoughts I have, and the pictures I share.

So here is to going back to where it all started. A personal lifestyle blog about me and my husband and our life. We think life should be enjoyed, and we think life should be a party! :) You can stick around if you want a taste of that.

  9. It's all about priorities. Sometimes mine are funny but I think I am doing just fine. :) My blog has a mind of it's own as well. I used to wish that there was a reoccurring theme for it. Now I just like to think of it as life. My life blog. and I love it! Have a fabulous Monday.

  11. Lovely post! Blogging is a great place to find out who you are, learn more about yourself as well as documenting cherished memories. But the trick is to remain true to yourself, and that's great that you're doing just that!

I'll def still be sticking around! :)

  12. I like this post! I think it's a good idea to have your blog more personal! I've been afraid no one would read my blog because it was too personal. But, in the end, the realize the blog is my personal journal to remember events in our life.

  16. I had to make the same transition myself! Its so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is blogging about, while slipping away from your original intentions! While it's wonderful to grow and evolve, you gotta love blogs about family life and personal experience. I'll still be here reading and cheering you on!

  24. I think it's so great that you have reflected on your blog and it's growth. Sometimes I think we all get carried away with making sure we are writing about what our followers want to read. The most important thing is writing about what you want to look back on and enjoy reading yourself, at least that is my motto. :) I adore your writing, and blog - I'm excited to stay a loyal follower and read about you and the hubby!

  25. It is amazing how ones blog goes through so many transitions, it is great that you are going back to the root of your blog.

  26. I've seriously gone through this more than the average human should. It's so easy to slip into the blogging world and neglect your real life responsibilities. It's also easy to conform to blogging about what other bloggers find interesting. But, in my own opinion, blogging for YOU is the best kind of blogging out there!!

Good for you, and best of luck! xoxo

  28. My blog has undergone so many incarnations - first it was about law school, then it transitioned (for one post) into wedding planning, then it was a way for me to keep in touch with family while I was living in Austria, then it became a way to keep in touch while I was holed up studying for the Bar. I'm not sure it really has a focus right now!

  31. i love blogs where they focus on what they love(such as fashion and what not) however i also love it when they can blog about the things that are the most important in life like loved ones, family, and just life (things that cant be bought from a store). im excited to read into your future posts!

ps. when you do fashion post thanks for being reasonable. i feel like more and more fashion bloggers are very unrealistic when it comes to clothes. if only we all had all the money in the world ;)

anyways love the blog, and your example!

  32. Oh, I'm so excited to see the change in focus. As much as I enjoy reading about what you like and your tastes, it just connects with me so much more when the posts are personal. :3

  37. I think we all get lost in that, ya know? I started blogging when we moved overseas to sort of keep family and friends in the loop, and while that's obviously not going to be the focus now that we're back in the states, I feel like sometimes I forget that I blog because I want to, not because other people want me to.

Good for you for going back to the basics!
